Joshua 21:1 (ERVEN) Easy to Read - English

1 The family rulers of the Levite tribe went to talk to Eleazar the priest, to Joshua son of Nun, and to the rulers of the other tribes of Israel.
2 At Shiloh in the land of Canaan, the Levite rulers said to them, "The Lord gave Moses a command. He commanded that you give us towns to live in and that you give us fields where our animals can eat."
3 So the Israelites obeyed this command from the Lord and gave the Levites these towns and the land around them for their animals:
4 The Kohath family groups were descendants of Aaron the priest from the tribe of Levi. Part of the Kohath family was given 13 towns in the areas that belonged to Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin.
5 The other Kohath families were given ten towns in the areas that belonged to Ephraim, Dan, and half of Manasseh.
6 The people from the Gershon family were given 13 towns. These towns were in the areas that belonged to Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and the half of Manasseh that was in Bashan.
7 The people from the Merari family were given twelve towns. These twelve towns came from the areas that belonged to Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun.
8 So the Israelites gave the Levites these towns and the fields around them, just as the Lord had told Moses.
9 These are the names of the towns that were in the areas that belonged to Judah and Simeon.
10 The first choice of towns was given to the Levites from the Kohath family group.
11 They gave them Kiriath Arba (This is Hebron. It was named for a man named Arba. Arba was the father of Anak.) They also gave them some land near the town for their animals.
12 But the fields and the small towns around the city of Kiriath Arba belonged to Caleb son of Jephunneh.
13 So they gave the city of Hebron to Aaron's descendants. (Hebron was a city of safety.) They also gave Aaron's descendants the towns of Libnah,
14 Jattir, Eshtemoa,
15 Holon, Debir,
16 Ain, Juttah, and Beth Shemesh. They also gave them some of the land near these towns for their animals. These two tribes gave them nine towns.
17 They also gave Aaron's descendants cities that belonged to the tribe of Benjamin. These cities were Gibeon, Geba,
18 Anathoth, and Almon. They gave them these four towns and some of the land near the towns for their animals.
19 In all, they gave 13 towns to the priests. (All priests were descendants of Aaron.) They also gave them some land near each town for their animals.
20 The other people from the Kohathite family groups were given towns that were in the areas that belonged to the tribe of Ephraim. They got these towns:
21 the city of Shechem from the hill country of Ephraim (which was a city of safety), Gezer,
22 Kibzaim, and Beth Horon. In all, Ephraim gave them four towns and some land around each town for their animals.
23 The tribe of Dan gave them Eltekeh, Gibbethon,
24 Aijalon, and Gath Rimmon. In all, Dan gave them four towns and some land around each town for their animals.
25 Half the tribe of Manasseh gave them Taanach and Gath Rimmon. In all, this half of Manasseh gave them two towns and some land around each town for their animals.
26 In all, the rest of the people from the Kohath family groups got ten towns and some land around each town for their animals.
27 The Gershon family groups were also from the tribe of Levi. They got these towns: Half the tribe of Manasseh gave them Golan in Bashan. (Golan was a city of safety.) Manasseh also gave them Be Eshtarah. In all, this half of Manasseh gave them two towns and some land around each town for their animals.
28 The tribe of Issachar gave them Kishion, Daberath,
29 Jarmuth, and En Gannim. In all, Issachar gave them four towns and some land around each town for their animals.
30 The tribe of Asher gave them Mishal, Abdon,
31 Helkath, and Rehob. In all, Asher gave them four towns and some land around each town for their animals.
32 The tribe of Naphtali gave them Kedesh in Galilee. (Kedesh was a city of safety.) Naphtali also gave them Hammoth Dor and Kartan. In all, Naphtali gave them three towns and some land around each town for their animals.
33 In all, the Gershon family groups got 13 towns and some land around each town for their animals.
34 The other Levite group was the Merari family group. They were given these towns: The tribe of Zebulun gave them Jokneam, Kartah, Dimnah, and Nahalal. In all, Zebulun gave them four towns and some land around each town for their animals. The tribe of Reuben gave them Bezer, Jahaz, Kedemoth, and Mephaath. In all, Reuben gave them four towns and some land around each town for their animals. The tribe of Gad gave them Ramoth in Gilead. (Ramoth was a city of safety.) They also gave them Mahanaim, Heshbon, and Jazer. In all, Gad gave them four towns and some land around each town for their animals.

40 In all, the last family of Levites, the Merari family, got twelve towns.
41 So the Levites were given a total of 48 towns and some land around each town for their animals. All these towns were in areas that belonged to the other tribes.
42 Each of these towns had some land in it for their animals. That was true for every town.
43 So the Lord kept the promise that he had made to the Israelites and gave the people all the land that he had promised. The people took the land and lived there.
44 And the Lord allowed them to have peace on all sides of their land, just as he had promised their ancestors. None of their enemies defeated them. The Lord allowed the Israelites to defeat every enemy.
45 The Lord kept every promise that he made to the Israelites. There were no promises that he failed to keep. Every promise came true.

2 And they spoke H1696 unto H413 them at Shiloh H7887 in the land H776 of Canaan, H3667 saying, H559 The LORD H3068 commanded H6680 by the hand H3027 of Moses H4872 to give H5414 us cities H5892 to dwell H3427 in , with the suburbs H4054 thereof for our cattle. H929
3 And the children H1121 of Israel H3478 gave H5414 unto the Levites H3881 out of their inheritance H4480 H5159 , at H413 the commandment H6310 of the LORD, H3068 H853 these H428 cities H5892 and their suburbs. H4054
4 And the lot H1486 came out H3318 for the families H4940 of the Kohathites: H6956 and the children H1121 of Aaron H175 the priest, H3548 which were of H4480 the Levites, H3881 had H1961 by lot H1486 out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Judah, H3063 and out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Simeon, H8099 and out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Benjamin, H1144 thirteen H7969 H6240 cities. 5 And the rest H3498 of the children H1121 of Kohath H6955 had by lot H1486 out of the families H4480 H4940 of the tribe H4294 of Ephraim, H669 and out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Dan, H1835 and out of the half H4480 H2677 tribe H4294 of Manasseh, H4519 ten H6235 cities. H5892
6 And the children H1121 of Gershon H1648 had by lot H1486 out of the families H4480 H4940 of the tribe H4294 of Issachar, H3485 and out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Asher, H836 and out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Naphtali, H5321 and out of the half H4480 H2677 tribe H4294 of Manasseh H4519 in Bashan, H1316 thirteen H7969 H6240 cities. 7 The children H1121 of Merari H4847 by their families H4940 had out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Reuben, H7205 and out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Gad, H1410 and out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Zebulun, H2074 twelve H8147 H6240 cities. H5892
8 And the children H1121 of Israel H3478 gave H5414 by lot H1486 unto the Levites H3881 H853 these H428 cities H5892 with H854 their suburbs, H4054 as H834 the LORD H3068 commanded H6680 by the hand H3027 of Moses. H4872
9 And they gave H5414 out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of the children H1121 of Judah, H3063 and out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of the children H1121 of Simeon, H8095 H853 these H428 cities H5892 which H834 are here mentioned H7121 by name, H8034
10 Which the children H1121 of Aaron, H175 being of the families H4480 H4940 of the Kohathites, H6956 who were of the children H4480 H1121 of Levi, H3878 had: H1961 for H3588 theirs was H1961 the first H7223 lot. H1486
11 And they gave H5414 them H853 the city H7151 of Arba H704 the father H1 of Anak, H6061 which H1931 city is Hebron, H2275 in the hill H2022 country of Judah, H3063 with H854 the suburbs H4054 thereof round about H5439 it.
12 But the fields H7704 of the city, H5892 and the villages H2691 thereof, gave H5414 they to Caleb H3612 the son H1121 of Jephunneh H3312 for his possession. H272
13 Thus they gave H5414 to the children H1121 of Aaron H175 the priest H3548 H853 Hebron H2275 with H854 her suburbs, H4054 to be H853 a city H5892 of refuge H4733 for the slayer; H7523 and Libnah H3841 with H854 her suburbs, H4054
14 And Jattir H3492 with H854 her suburbs, H4054 and Eshtemoa H851 with H854 her suburbs, H4054
15 And Holon H2473 with H854 her suburbs, H4054 and Debir H1688 with H854 her suburbs, H4054

19 All H3605 the cities H5892 of the children H1121 of Aaron, H175 the priests, H3548 were thirteen H7969 H6240 cities H5892 with their suburbs. H4054
20 And the families H4940 of the children H1121 of Kohath, H6955 the Levites H3881 which remained H3498 of the children H4480 H1121 of Kohath, H6955 even they had H1961 the cities H5892 of their lot H1486 out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Ephraim. H669
21 For they gave H5414 them H853 Shechem H7927 with H854 her suburbs H4054 in mount H2022 Ephraim, H669 to be H853 a city H5892 of refuge H4733 for the slayer; H7523 and Gezer H1507 with H854 her suburbs, H4054

26 All H3605 the cities H5892 were ten H6235 with their suburbs H4054 for the families H4940 of the children H1121 of Kohath H6955 that remained. H3498
27 And unto the children H1121 of Gershon, H1648 of the families H4480 H4940 of the Levites, H3881 out of the other half H4480 H2677 tribe H4294 of Manasseh H4519 they gave H853 Golan H1474 in Bashan H1316 with H854 her suburbs, H4054 to be H853 a city H5892 of refuge H4733 for the slayer; H7523 and Beesh- H1203 terah with H854 her suburbs; H4054 two H8147 cities. 32 And out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Naphtali, H5321 H853 Kedesh H6943 in Galilee H1551 with H854 her suburbs, H4054 to be H853 a city H5892 of refuge H4733 for the slayer; H7523 and Hammoth- H2576 dor with H854 her suburbs, H4054 and Kartan H7178 with her suburbs; H4054 three H7969 cities. H5892
33 All H3605 the cities H5892 of the Gershonites H1649 according to their families H4940 were thirteen H7969 H6240 cities H5892 with their suburbs. H4054
34 And unto the families H4940 of the children H1121 of Merari, H4847 the rest H3498 of the Levites, H3881 out of H4480 H854 the tribe H4294 of Zebulun, H2074 H853 Jokneam H3362 with H854 her suburbs, H4054 and H853 Kartah H7177 with H854 her suburbs, H4054

38 And out of the tribe H4480 H4294 of Gad, H1410 H853 Ramoth H7216 in Gilead H1568 with H854 her suburbs, H4054 to be H853 a city H5892 of refuge H4733 for the slayer; H7523 and Mahanaim H4266 with H854 her suburbs, H4054
39 H853 Heshbon H2809 with H854 her suburbs, H4054 H853 Jazer H3270 with H854 her suburbs; H4054 four H702 cities H5892 in all. H3605
40 So all H3605 the cities H5892 for the children H1121 of Merari H4847 by their families, H4940 which were remaining H3498 of the families H4480 H4940 of the Levites, H3881 were H1961 by their lot H1486 twelve H8147 H6240 cities. H5892
41 All H3605 the cities H5892 of the Levites H3881 within H8432 the possession H272 of the children H1121 of Israel H3478 were forty H705 and eight H8083 cities H5892 with their suburbs. H4054
42 These H428 cities H5892 were H1961 every one H5892 H5892 with their suburbs H4054 round about H5439 them: thus H3651 were all H3605 these H428 cities. H5892
43 And the LORD H3068 gave H5414 unto Israel H3478 H853 all H3605 the land H776 which H834 he swore H7650 to give H5414 unto their fathers; H1 and they possessed H3423 it , and dwelt H3427 therein.
44 And the LORD H3068 gave them rest H5117 round about H4480 H5439 , according to all H3605 that H834 he swore H7650 unto their fathers: H1 and there stood H5975 not H3808 a man H376 of all H4480 H3605 their enemies H341 before H6440 them ; the LORD H3068 delivered H5414 H853 all H3605 their enemies H341 into their hand. 45 There failed H5307 not H3808 aught H1697 of any H4480 H3605 good H2896 thing H1697 which H834 the LORD H3068 had spoken H1696 unto H413 the house H1004 of Israel; H3478 all H3605 came to pass. H935
