1
When
the
morning
was
come,
all
the
chief
priests
and
elders
of
the
people
took
counsel
against
Jesus
to
put
him
to
death:
2
And
when
they
had
bound
him,
they
led
him
away,
and
delivered
him
to
Pontius
Pilate
the
governor.
3
Then
Judas,
which
had
betrayeth
him,
when
he
saw
that
he
was
condemned,
repented
himself,
and
brought
again
the
thirty
pieces
of
silver
to
the
chief
priests
and
elders,
4
Saying,
I
have
sinned
in
that
I
have
betrayed
the
innocent
blood.
And
they
said,
What
is
that
to
us?
see
thou
to
that.
5
And
he
cast
down
the
pieces
of
silver
in
the
temple,
and
departed,
and
went
and
hanged
himself.
6
And
the
chief
priests
took
the
silver
pieces,
and
said,
It
is
not
lawful
for
to
put
them
into
the
treasury,
because
it
is
the
price
of
blood.
7
And
they
took
counsel,
and
bought
with
them
the
potter’s
field,
to
bury
strangers
in.
8
Wherefore
that
field
was
called,
The
field
of
blood,
unto
this
day.
9
Then
was
fulfilled
that
which
was
spoken
by
Jeremy
the
prophet,
saying,
And
they
took
the
thirty
pieces
of
silver,
the
price
of
him
that
was
valued,
whom
they
of
the
children
of
Israel
did
value;
10
And
gave
them
for
the
potter’s
field,
as
the
Lord
appointed
me.
11
And
Jesus
stood
before
the
governor:
and
the
governor
asked
him,
saying,
Art
thou
the
King
of
the
Jews?
And
Jesus
said
unto
him,
Thou
sayest.
12
And
when
he
was
accused
of
the
chief
priests
and
elders,
he
answered
nothing.
13
Then
said
Pilate
unto
him,
Hearest
thou
not
how
many
things
they
witness
against
thee?
14
And
he
answered
him
to
never
a
word;
insomuch
that
the
governor
marvelled
greatly.
15
Now
at
that
feast
the
governor
was
wont
to
release
unto
the
people
a
prisoner,
whom
they
would.
16
And
they
had
then
a
notable
prisoner,
called
Barabbas.
17
Therefore
when
they
were
gathered
together,
Pilate
said
unto
them,
Whom
will
ye
that
I
release
unto
you?
Barabbas,
or
Jesus
which
is
called
Christ?
18
For
he
knew
that
for
envy
they
had
delivered
him.
19
When
he
was
set
down
on
the
judgment
seat,
his
wife
sent
unto
him,
saying,
Have
thou
nothing
to
do
with
that
just
man:
for
I
have
suffered
many
things
this
day
in
a
dream
because
of
him.
20
But
the
chief
priests
and
elders
persuaded
the
multitude
that
they
should
ask
Barabbas,
and
destroy
Jesus.
21
The
governor
answered
and
said
unto
them,
Whether
of
the
twain
will
ye
that
I
release
unto
you?
They
said,
Barabbas.
22
Pilate
saith
unto
them,
What
shall
I
do
then
with
Jesus
which
is
called
Christ?
They
all
say
unto
him,
Let
him
be
crucified.
23
And
the
governor
said,
Why,
what
evil
hath
he
done?
But
they
cried
out
the
more,
saying,
Let
him
be
crucified.
24
When
Pilate
saw
that
he
could
prevail
nothing,
but
that
rather
a
tumult
was
made,
he
took
water,
and
washed
his
hands
before
the
multitude,
saying,
I
am
innocent
of
the
blood
of
this
just
person:
see
ye
to
it.
25
Then
answered
all
the
people,
and
said,
His
blood
be
on
us,
and
on
our
children.
26
Then
released
he
Barabbas
unto
them:
and
when
he
had
scourged
Jesus,
he
delivered
him
to
be
crucified.
27
Then
the
soldiers
of
the
governor
took
Jesus
into
the
common
hall,
and
gathered
unto
him
the
whole
band
of
soldiers.
28
And
they
stripped
him,
and
put
on
him
a
scarlet
robe.
29
And
when
they
had
platted
a
crown
of
thorns,
they
put
it
upon
his
head,
and
a
reed
in
his
right
hand:
and
they
bowed
the
knee
before
him,
and
mocked
him,
saying,
Hail,
King
of
the
Jews!
30
And
they
spit
upon
him,
and
took
the
reed,
and
smote
him
on
the
head.
31
And
after
that
they
had
mocked
him,
they
took
the
robe
off
from
him,
and
put
his
own
raiment
on
him,
and
led
him
away
to
crucify
him.
32
And
as
they
came
out,
they
found
a
man
of
Cyrene,
Simon
by
name:
him
they
compelled
to
bear
his
cross.
33
And
when
they
were
come
unto
a
place
called
Golgotha,
that
is
to
say,
a
place
of
a
skull,
34
They
gave
him
vinegar
to
drink
mingled
with
gall:
and
when
he
had
tasted
thereof,
he
would
not
drink.
35
And
they
crucified
him,
and
parted
his
garments,
casting
lots:
that
it
might
be
fulfilled
which
was
spoken
by
the
prophet,
They
parted
my
garments
among
them,
and
upon
my
vesture
did
they
cast
lots.
36
And
sitting
down
they
watched
him
there;
37
And
set
up
over
his
head
his
accusation
written,
THIS
IS
JESUS
THE
KING
OF
THE
JEWS.
38
Then
were
there
two
thieves
crucified
with
him,
one
on
the
right
hand,
and
another
on
the
left.
39
And
they
that
passed
by
reviled
him,
wagging
their
heads,
40
And
saying,
Thou
that
destroyest
the
temple,
and
buildest
it
in
three
days,
save
thyself.
If
thou
be
the
Son
of
God,
come
down
from
the
cross.
41
Likewise
also
the
chief
priests
mocking
him,
with
the
scribes
and
elders,
said,
42
He
saved
others;
himself
he
cannot
save.
If
he
be
the
King
of
Israel,
let
him
now
come
down
from
the
cross,
and
we
will
believe
him.
43
He
trusted
in
God;
let
him
deliver
him
now,
if
he
will
have
him:
for
he
said,
I
am
the
Son
of
God.
44
The
thieves
also,
which
were
crucified
with
him,
cast
the
same
in
his
teeth.
45
Now
from
the
sixth
hour
there
was
darkness
over
all
the
land
unto
the
ninth
hour.
46
And
about
the
ninth
hour
Jesus
cried
with
a
loud
voice,
saying,
Eli,
Eli,
lama
sabachthani?
that
is
to
say,
My
God,
my
God,
why
hast
thou
forsaken
me?
47
Some
of
them
that
stood
there,
when
they
heard
that,
said,
This
man
calleth
for
Elias.
48
And
straightway
one
of
them
ran,
and
took
a
spunge,
and
filled
it
with
vinegar,
and
put
it
on
a
reed,
and
gave
him
to
drink.
49
The
rest
said,
Let
be,
let
us
see
whether
Elias
will
come
to
save
him.
50
Jesus,
when
he
had
cried
again
with
a
loud
voice,
yielded
up
the
ghost.
51
And,
behold,
the
veil
of
the
temple
was
rent
in
twain
from
the
top
to
the
bottom;
and
the
earth
did
quake,
and
the
rocks
rent;
52
And
the
graves
were
opened;
and
many
bodies
of
the
saints
which
slept
arose,
53
And
came
out
of
the
graves
after
his
resurrection,
and
went
into
the
holy
city,
and
appeared
unto
many.
54
Now
when
the
centurion,
and
they
that
were
with
him,
watching
Jesus,
saw
the
earthquake,
and
those
things
that
were
done,
they
feared
greatly,
saying,
Truly
this
was
the
Son
of
God.
55
And
many
women
were
there
beholding
afar
off,
which
followed
Jesus
from
Galilee,
ministering
unto
him:
56
Among
which
was
Mary
Magdalene,
and
Mary
the
mother
of
James
and
Joses,
and
the
mother
of
Zebedee’s
children.
57
When
the
even
was
come,
there
came
a
rich
man
of
Arimathaea,
named
Joseph,
who
also
himself
was
Jesus’
disciple:
58
He
went
to
Pilate,
and
begged
the
body
of
Jesus.
Then
Pilate
commanded
the
body
to
be
delivered.
59
And
when
Joseph
had
taken
the
body,
he
wrapped
it
in
a
clean
linen
cloth,
60
And
laid
it
in
his
own
new
tomb,
which
he
had
hewn
out
in
the
rock:
and
he
rolled
a
great
stone
to
the
door
of
the
sepulchre,
and
departed.
61
And
there
was
Mary
Magdalene,
and
the
other
Mary,
sitting
over
against
the
sepulchre.
62
Now
the
next
day,
that
followed
the
day
of
the
preparation,
the
chief
priests
and
Pharisees
came
together
unto
Pilate,
63
Saying,
Sir,
we
remember
that
that
deceiver
said,
while
he
was
yet
alive,
After
three
days
I
will
rise
again.
64
Command
therefore
that
the
sepulchre
be
made
sure
until
the
third
day,
lest
his
disciples
come
by
night,
and
steal
him
away,
and
say
unto
the
people,
He
is
risen
from
the
dead:
so
the
last
error
shall
be
worse
than
the
first.
65
Pilate
said
unto
them,
Ye
have
a
watch:
go
your
way,
make
it
as
sure
as
ye
can.
66
So
they
went,
and
made
the
sepulchre
sure,
sealing
the
stone,
and
setting
a
watch.

1
And
morning
having
come,
all
the
chief
priests
and
the
elders
of
the
people
took
counsel
against
Jesus,
so
as
to
put
him

death;
2
and
having
bound
him,
they
did
lead
away,
and
delivered
him
up
to
Pontius
Pilate,
the
governor.
3
Then
Judas
--
he
who
delivered
him
up
--
having
seen
that
he
was
condemned,
having
repented,
brought
back
the
thirty
silverlings
to
the
chief
priests,
and
to
the
elders,
saying,
4
`I
did
sin,
having
delivered
up
innocent
blood;`
and
they
said,
`What
--
to
us?
thou
shalt
see!`
5
and
having
cast
down
the
silverlings
in
the
sanctuary,
he
departed,
and
having
gone
away,
he
did
strangle
himself.
6
And
the
chief
priests
having
taken
the
silverlings,
said,
`It
is
not
lawful
to
put
them
to
the
treasury,
seeing
it
is
the
price
of
blood;`
7
and
having
taken
counsel,
they
bought
with
them
the
field
of
the
potter,
for
the
burial
of
strangers;
8
therefore
was
that
field
called,
`Field
of
blood,`
unto
this
day.
9
Then
was
fulfilled
that
spoken
through
Jeremiah
the
prophet,
saying,
`And
I
took
the
thirty
silverlings,
the
price
of
him
who
hath
been
priced,
whom
they
of
the
sons
of
Israel
did
price,
10
and
gave
them
for
the
field
of
the
potter,
as
the
Lord
did
appoint
to
me.`
11
And
Jesus
stood
before
the
governor,
and
the
governor
did
question
him,
saying,
`Art
thou
the
king
of
the
Jews!`
And
Jesus
said
to
him,
`Thou
sayest.`
12
And
in
his
being
accused
by
the
chief
priests
and
the
elders,
he
did
not
answer
any
thing,
13
then
saith
Pilate
to
him,

14
And
he
did
not
answer
him,
not
even
to
one
word,
so
that
the
governor
did
wonder
greatly.
15
And
at
the
feast
the
governor
had
been
accustomed
to
release
one
to

multitude,
a
prisoner,
whom
they
willed,
16

a
noted
prisoner,
called
Barabbas,
17
they
therefore
having
been
gathered
together,
Pilate
said
to
them,
`Whom
will
ye
I
shall
release
to
you?
Barabbas
or
Jesus
who
is
called
Christ?`
18
for
he
had
known
that
because
of
envy
they
had
delivered
him
up.
19
And
as
he
is
sitting
on
the
tribunal,
his
wife
sent
unto
him,
saying,
`Nothing
--
to
thee
and
to
that
righteous
one,
for
many
things
did
I
suffer
to-day
in
a
dream
because
of
him.`
20
And
the
chief
priests
and
the
elders
did
persuade
the
multitudes
that
they
might
ask
for
themselves
Barabbas,
and
might
destroy
Jesus;
21
and
the
governor
answering
said
to
them,
`Which
of
the
two
will
ye
that
I
shall
release
to
you?`
And
they
said,
`Barabbas.`
22
Pilate
saith
to
them,
`What
then
shall
I
do
with
Jesus
who
is
called
Christ?`
They
all
say
to
him,
`Let
be
crucified!`
23
And
the
governor
said,
`Why,
what
evil
did
he?`
and
they
were
crying
out
the
more,
saying,
`Let
be
crucified.`
24
And
Pilate
having
seen
that
it
profiteth
nothing,
but
rather
a
tumult
is
made,
having
taken
water,
he
did
wash
the
hands
before
the
multitude,
saying,
`I
am
innocent
from
the
blood
of
this
righteous
one;
ye
--
ye
shall
see;`
25
and
all
the
people
answering
said,
`His
blood
is
upon
us,
and
upon
our
children!`
26
Then
did
he
release
to
them
Barabbas,
and
having
scourged
Jesus,
he
delivered
him
up
that
he
may
be
crucified;
27
then
the
soldiers
of
the
governor
having
taken
Jesus
to
the
Praetorium,
did
gather
to
him
all
the
band;
28
and
having
unclothed
him,
they
put
around
him
a
crimson
cloak,
29
and
having
plaited
him
a
crown
out
of
thorns
they
put
it
on
his
head,
and
a
reed
in
his
right
hand,
and
having
kneeled
before
him,
they
were
mocking
him,
saying,
`Hail,
the
king
of
the
Jews.`
30
And
having
spit
on
him,
they
took
the
reed,
and
were
smiting
on
his
head;
31
and
when
they
had
mocked
him,
they
took
off
from
him
the
cloak,
and
put
on
him
his
own
garments,
and
led
him
away
to
crucify
him
.
32
And
coming
forth,
they
found
a
man,
a
Cyrenian,
by
name
Simon:
him
they
impressed
that
he
might
bear
his
cross;
33
and
having
come
to
a
place
called
Golgotha,
that
is
called
Place
of
a
Skull,
34
they
gave
him
to
drink
vinegar
mixed
with
gall,
and
having
tasted,
he
would
not
drink.
35
And
having
crucified
him,
they
divided
his
garments,
casting
a
lot,
that
it
might
be
fulfilled
that
was
spoken
by
the
prophet,
`They
divided
my
garments
to
themselves,
and
over
my
vesture
they
cast
a
lot;`
36
and
sitting
down,
they
were
watching
him
there,
37
and
they
put
up
over
his
head,
his
accusation
written,
`This
is
Jesus,
the
king
of
the
Jews.`
38
Then
crucified
with
him
are
two
robbers,
one
on
the
right
hand,
and
one
on
the
left,
39
and
those
passing
by
were
speaking
evil
of
him,
wagging
their
heads,
40
and
saying,
`Thou
that
art
throwing
down
the
sanctuary,
and
in
three
days
building
it
,
save
thyself;
if
Son
thou
art
of
God,
come
down
from
the
cross.`
41
And
in
like
manner
also
the
chief
priests
mocking,
with
the
scribes
and
elders,
said,
42
`Others
he
saved;
himself
he
is
not
able
to
save!
If
he
be
King
of
Israel,
let
him
come
down
now
from
the
cross,
and
we
will
believe
him;
43
he
hath
trusted
on
God,
let
Him
now
deliver
him,
if
He
wish
him,
because
he
said
--
Son
of
God
I
am;`
44
with
the
same
also
the
robbers,
who
were
crucified
with
him,
were
reproaching
him.
45
And
from
the
sixth
hour
darkness
came
over
all
the
land
unto
the
ninth
hour,
46
and
about
the
ninth
hour
Jesus
cried
out
with
a
great
voice,
saying,
`Eli,
Eli,
lama
sabachthani?`
that
is,
`My
God,
my
God,
why
didst
Thou
forsake
me?`
47
And
certain
of
those
standing
there
having
heard,
said
--
`Elijah
he
doth
call;`
48
and
immediately,
one
of
them
having
run,
and
having
taken
a
spunge,
having
filled
it
with
vinegar,
and
having
put
it
on
a
reed,
was
giving
him
to
drink,
49
but
the
rest
said,
`Let
alone,
let
us
see
if
Elijah
doth
come
--
about
to
save
him.`
50
And
Jesus
having
again
cried
with
a
great
voice,
yielded
the
spirit;
51
and
lo,
the
vail
of
the
sanctuary
was
rent
in
two
from
top
unto
bottom,
and
the
earth
did
quake,
and
the
rocks
were
rent,
52
and
the
tombs
were
opened,
and
many
bodies
of
the
saints
who
have
fallen
asleep,
arose,
53
and
having
come
forth
out
of
the
tombs
after
his
rising,
they
went
into
the
holy
city,
and
appeared
to
many.
54
And
the
centurion,
and
those
with
him
watching
Jesus,
having
seen
the
earthquake,
and
the
things
that
were
done,
were
exceedingly
afraid,
saying,
`Truly
this
was
God's
Son.`
55
And
there
were
there
many
women
beholding
from
afar,
who
did
follow
Jesus
from
Galilee,
ministering
to
him,
56
among
whom
was
Mary
the
Magdalene,
and
Mary
the
mother
of
James
and
of
Joses,
and
the
mother
of
the
sons
of
Zebedee.
57
And
evening
having
come,
there
came
a
rich
man,
from
Arimathea,
named
Joseph,
who
also
himself
was
discipled
to
Jesus,
58
he
having
gone
near
to
Pilate,
asked
for
himself
the
body
of
Jesus;
then
Pilate
commanded
the
body
to
be
given
back.
59
And
having
taken
the
body,
Joseph
wrapped
it
in
clean
linen,
60
and
laid
it
in
his
new
tomb,
that
he
hewed
in
the
rock,
and
having
rolled
a
great
stone
to
the
door
of
the
tomb,
he
went
away;
61
and
there
were
there
Mary
the
Magdalene,
and
the
other
Mary,
sitting
over-against
the
sepulchre.
62
And
on
the
morrow
that
is
after
the
preparation,
were
gathered
together
the
chief
priests,
and
the
Pharisees,
unto
Pilate,
63
saying,
`Sir,
we
have
remembered
that
that
deceiver
said
while
yet
living,
After
three
days
I
do
rise;
64
command,
then,
the
sepulchre
to
be
made
secure
till
the
third
day,
lest
his
disciples,
having
come
by
night,
may
steal
him
away,
and
may
say
to
the
people,
He
rose
from
the
dead,
and
the
last
deceit
shall
be
worse
than
the
first.`
65
And
Pilate
said
to
them,
`Ye
have
a
watch,
go
away,
make
secure
--
as
ye
have
known;`
66
and
they,
having
gone,
did
make
the
sepulchre
secure,
having
sealed
the
stone,
together
with
the
watch.

1
Now
when
morning
was
come,
all
the
chief
priests
and
the
elders
of
the
people
took
counsel
against
Jesus
to
put
him
to
death:
2
and
they
bound
him,
and
led
him
away,
and
delivered
him
up
to
Pilate
the
governor.
3
Then
Judas,
who
betrayed
him,
when
he
saw
that
he
was
condemned,
repented
himself,
and
brought
back
the
thirty
pieces
of
silver
to
the
chief
priests
and
elders,
4
saying,
I
have
sinned
in
that
I
betrayed
innocent
blood.
But
they
said,
What
is
that
to
us?
see
thou
to
it.
5
And
he
cast
down
the
pieces
of
silver
into
the
sanctuary,
and
departed;
and
he
went
away
and
hanged
himself.
6
And
the
chief
priests
took
the
pieces
of
silver,
and
said,
It
is
not
lawful
to
put
them
into
the
treasury,
since
it
is
the
price
of
blood.
7
And
they
took
counsel,
and
bought
with
them
the
potters
field,
to
bury
strangers
in.
8
Wherefore
that
field
was
called,
the
field
of
blood,
unto
this
day.
9
Then
was
fulfilled
that
which
was
spoken
through
Jeremiah
the
prophet,
saying,
And
they
took
the
thirty
pieces
of
silver,
the
price
of
him
that
was
priced,
whom
certain
of
the
children
of
Israel
did
price;
10
and
they
gave
them
for
the
potters
field,
as
the
Lord
appointed
me.
11
Now
Jesus
stood
before
the
governor:
and
the
governor
asked
him,
saying,
Art
thou
the
King
of
the
Jews?
And
Jesus
said
unto
him,
Thou
sayest.
12
And
when
he
was
accused
by
the
chief
priests
and
elders,
he
answered
nothing.
13
Then
saith
Pilate
unto
him,
Hearest
thou
not
how
many
things
they
witness
against
thee?
14
And
he
gave
him
no
answer,
not
even
to
one
word:
insomuch
that
the
governor
marvelled
greatly.
15
Now
at
the
feast
the
governor
was
wont
to
release
unto
the
multitude
one
prisoner,
whom
they
would.
16
And
they
had
then
a
notable
prisoner,
called
Barabbas.
17
When
therefore
they
were
gathered
together,
Pilate
said
unto
them,
Whom
will
ye
that
I
release
unto
you?
Barabbas,
or
Jesus
who
is
called
Christ?
18
For
he
knew
that
for
envy
they
had
delivered
him
up.
19
And
while
he
was
sitting
on
the
judgment-seat,
his
wife
sent
unto
him,
saying,
Have
thou
nothing
to
do
with
that
righteous
man;
for
I
have
suffered
many
things
this
day
in
a
dream
because
of
him.
20
Now
the
chief
priests
and
the
elders
persuaded
the
multitudes
that
they
should
ask
for
Barabbas,
and
destroy
Jesus.
21
But
the
governor
answered
and
said
unto
them,
Which
of
the
two
will
ye
that
I
release
unto
you?
And
they
said,
Barabbas.
22
Pilate
saith
unto
them,
What
then
shall
I
do
unto
Jesus
who
is
called
Christ?
They
all
say,
Let
him
be
crucified.
23
And
he
said,
Why,
what
evil
hath
he
done?
But
they
cried
out
exceedingly,
saying,
Let
him
be
crucified.
24
So
when
Pilate
saw
that
he
prevailed
nothing,
but
rather
that
a
tumult
was
arising,
he
took
water,
and
washed
his
hands
before
the
multitude,
saying,
I
am
innocent
of
the
blood
of
this
righteous
man;
see
ye
to
it.
25
And
all
the
people
answered
and
said,
His
blood
be
on
us,
and
on
our
children.
26
Then
released
he
unto
them
Barabbas;
but
Jesus
he
scourged
and
delivered
to
be
crucified.
27
Then
the
soldiers
of
the
governor
took
Jesus
into
the
Praetorium,
and
gathered
unto
him
the
whole
band.
28
And
they
stripped
him,
and
put
on
him
a
scarlet
robe.
29
And
they
platted
a
crown
of
thorns
and
put
it
upon
his
head,
and
a
reed
in
his
right
hand;
and
they
kneeled
down
before
him,
and
mocked
him,
saying,
Hail,
King
of
the
Jews!
30
And
they
spat
upon
him,
and
took
the
reed
and
smote
him
on
the
head.
31
And
when
they
had
mocked
him,
they
took
off
from
him
the
robe,
and
put
on
him
his
garments,
and
led
him
away
to
crucify
him.
32
And
as
they
came
out,
they
found
a
man
of
Cyrene,
Simon
by
name:
him
they
compelled
to
go
with
them,
that
he
might
bear
his
cross.
33
And
they
were
come
unto
a
place
called
Golgotha,
that
is
to
say,
The
place
of
a
skull,
34
they
gave
him
wine
to
drink
mingled
with
gall:
and
when
he
had
tasted
it,
he
would
not
drink.
35
And
when
they
had
crucified
him,
they
parted
his
garments
among
them,
casting
lots;
36
and
they
sat
and
watched
him
there.
37
And
they
set
up
over
his
head
his
accusation
written,
THIS
IS
JESUS
THE
KING
OF
THE
JEWS.
38
Then
are
there
crucified
with
him
two
robbers,
one
on
the
right
hand
and
one
on
the
left.
39
And
they
that
passed
by
railed
on
him,
wagging
their
heads,
40
and
saying,
Thou
that
destroyest
the
temple,
and
buildest
it
in
three
days,
save
thyself:
if
thou
art
the
Son
of
God,
come
down
from
the
cross.
41
In
like
manner
also
the
chief
priests
mocking
him,
with
the
scribes
and
elders,
said,
42
He
saved
others;
himself
he
cannot
save.
He
is
the
King
of
Israel;
let
him
now
come
down
from
the
cross,
and
we
will
believe
on
him.
43
He
trusteth
on
God;
let
him
deliver
him
now,
if
he
desireth
him:
for
he
said,
I
am
the
Son
of
God.
44
And
the
robbers
also
that
were
crucified
with
him
cast
upon
him
the
same
reproach.
45
Now
from
the
sixth
hour
there
was
darkness
over
all
the
land
until
the
ninth
hour.
46
And
about
the
ninth
hour
Jesus
cried
with
a
loud
voice,
saying,
Eli,
Eli,
lama
sabachthani?
that
is,
My
God,
my
God,
why
hast
thou
forsaken
me?
47
And
some
of
them
stood
there,
when
they
heard
it,
said,
This
man
calleth
Elijah.
48
And
straightway
one
of
them
ran,
and
took
a
sponge,
and
filled
it
with
vinegar,
and
put
it
on
a
reed,
and
gave
him
to
drink.
49
And
the
rest
said,
Let
be;
let
us
see
whether
Elijah
cometh
to
save
him.
50
And
Jesus
cried
again
with
a
loud
voice,
and
yielded
up
his
spirit.
51
And
behold,
the
veil
of
the
temple
was
rent
in
two
from
the
top
to
the
bottom;
and
the
earth
did
quake;
and
the
rocks
were
rent;
52
and
the
tombs
were
opened;
and
many
bodies
of
the
saints
that
had
fallen
asleep
were
raised;
53
and
coming
forth
out
of
the
tombs
after
his
resurrection
they
entered
into
the
holy
city
and
appeared
unto
many.
54
Now
the
centurion,
and
they
that
were
with
him
watching
Jesus,
when
they
saw
the
earthquake,
and
the
things
that
were
done,
feared
exceedingly,
saying,
Truly
this
was
the
Son
of
God.
55
And
many
women
were
there
beholding
from
afar,
who
had
followed
Jesus
from
Galilee,
ministering
unto
him:
56
among
whom
was
Mary
Magdalene,
and
Mary
the
mother
of
James
and
Joses,
and
the
mother
of
the
sons
of
Zebedee.
57
And
when
even
was
come,
there
came
a
rich
man
from
Arimathaea,
named
Joseph,
who
also
himself
was
Jesus
disciple:
58
this
man
went
to
Pilate,
and
asked
for
the
body
of
Jesus.
Then
Pilate
commanded
it
to
be
given
up.
59
And
Joseph
took
the
body,
and
wrapped
it
in
a
clean
linen
cloth,
60
and
laid
it
in
his
own
new
tomb,
which
he
had
hewn
out
in
the
rock:
and
he
rolled
a
great
stone
to
the
door
of
the
tomb,
and
departed.
61
And
Mary
Magdalene
was
there,
and
the
other
Mary,
sitting
over
against
the
sepulchre.
62
Now
on
the
morrow,
which
is
the
day
after
the
Preparation,
the
chief
priests
and
the
Pharisees
were
gathered
together
unto
Pilate,
63
saying,
Sir,
we
remember
that
that
deceiver
said
while
he
was
yet
alive,
After
three
days
I
rise
again.
64
Command
therefore
that
the
sepulchre
be
made
sure
until
the
third
day,
lest
haply
his
disciples
come
and
steal
him
away,
and
say
unto
the
people,
He
is
risen
from
the
dead:
and
the
last
error
will
be
worse
than
the
first.
65
Pilate
said
unto
them,
Ye
have
a
guard:
go,
make
it
as
sure
as
ye
can.
66
So
they
went,
and
made
the
sepulchre
sure,
sealing
the
stone,
the
guard
being
with
them.

Now
when
morning
had
come,
all
the
chief
priests
and
the
elders
of
the
people
took
counsel
against
Jesus
to
put
him
to
death:
2
and
they
bound
him,
and
led
him
away,
and
delivered
him
up
to
Pontius
Pilate,
the
governor.
3
Then
Judas,
who
betrayed
him,
when
he
saw
that
Jesus
was
condemned,
felt
remorse,
and
brought
back
the
thirty
pieces
of
silver
to
the
chief
priests
and
elders,
4
saying,
"I
have
sinned
in
that
I
betrayed
innocent
blood."
But
they
said,
"What
is
that
to
us?
You
see
to
it."
5
He
threw
down
the
pieces
of
silver
in
the
sanctuary,
and
departed.
He
went
away
and
hanged
himself.
6
The
chief
priests
took
the
pieces
of
silver,
and
said,
"It's
not
lawful
to
put
them
into
the
treasury,
since
it
is
the
price
of
blood."
7
They
took
counsel,
and
bought
the
potter's
field
with
them,
to
bury
strangers
in.
8
Therefore
that
field
was
called
"The
Field
of
Blood"
to
this
day.
9
Then
that
which
was
spoken
through
Jeremiah
the
prophet
was
fulfilled,
saying,
"They
took
the
thirty
pieces
of
silver,
The
price
of
him
upon
whom
a
price
had
been
set,
Whom
some
of
the
children
of
Israel
priced,
10
And
they
gave
them
for
the
potter's
field,
As
the
Lord
commanded
me."
11
Now
Jesus
stood
before
the
governor:
and
the
governor
asked
him,
saying,
"Are
you
the
King
of
the
Jews?"
Jesus
said
to
him,
"So
you
say."
12
When
he
was
accused
by
the
chief
priests
and
elders,
he
answered
nothing.
13
Then
Pilate
said
to
him,
"Don't
you
hear
how
many
things
they
testify
against
you?"
14
He
gave
him
no
answer,
not
even
one
word,
so
that
the
governor
marveled
greatly.
15
Now
at
the
feast
the
governor
was
accustomed
to
release
to
the
multitude
one
prisoner,
whom
they
desired.
16
They
had
then
a
notable
prisoner,
called
Barabbas.
17
When
therefore
they
were
gathered
together,
Pilate
said
to
them,
"Whom
do
you
want
me
to
release
to
you?
Barabbas,
or
Jesus,
who
is
called
Christ?"
18
For
he
knew
that
because
of
envy
they
had
delivered
him
up.
19
While
he
was
sitting
on
the
judgment
seat,
his
wife
sent
to
him,
saying,
"Have
nothing
to
do
with
that
righteous
man,
for
I
have
suffered
many
things
this
day
in
a
dream
because
of
him."
20
Now
the
chief
priests
and
the
elders
persuaded
the
multitudes
to
ask
for
Barabbas,
and
destroy
Jesus.
21
But
the
governor
answered
them,
"Which
of
the
two
do
you
want
me
to
release
to
you?"
They
said,
"Barabbas!"
22
Pilate
said
to
them,
"What
then
shall
I
do
to
Jesus,
who
is
called
Christ?"
They
all
said
to
him,
"Let
him
be
crucified!"
23
But
the
governor
said,
"Why?
What
evil
has
he
done?"
But
they
cried
out
exceedingly,
saying,
"Let
him
be
crucified!"
24
So
when
Pilate
saw
that
nothing
was
being
gained,
but
rather
that
a
disturbance
was
starting,
he
took
water,
and
washed
his
hands
before
the
multitude,
saying,
"I
am
innocent
of
the
blood
of
this
righteous
person.
You
see
to
it."
25
All
the
people
answered,
"May
his
blood
be
on
us,
and
on
our
children!"
26
Then
he
released
to
them
Barabbas,
but
Jesus
he
flogged
and
delivered
to
be
crucified.
27
Then
the
governor's
soldiers
took
Jesus
into
the
Praetorium,
and
gathered
the
whole
garrison
together
against
him.
28
They
stripped
him,
and
put
a
scarlet
robe
on
him.
29
They
braided
a
crown
of
thorns
and
put
it
on
his
head,
and
a
reed
in
his
right
hand;
and
they
kneeled
down
before
him,
and
mocked
him,
saying,
"Hail,
King
of
the
Jews!"
30
They
spat
on
him,
and
took
the
reed
and
struck
him
on
the
head.
31
When
they
had
mocked
him,
they
took
the
robe
off
of
him,
and
put
his
clothes
on
him,
and
led
him
away
to
crucify
him.
32
As
they
came
out,
they
found
a
man
of
Cyrene,
Simon
by
name,
and
they
compelled
him
to
go
with
them,
that
he
might
carry
his
cross.
33
They
came
to
a
place
called
"Golgotha,"
that
is
to
say,
"The
place
of
a
skull."
34
They
gave
him
sour
wine
to
drink
mixed
with
gall.
When
he
had
tasted
it,
he
would
not
drink.
35
When
they
had
crucified
him,
they
divided
his
clothing
among
them,
casting
lots,
36
and
they
sat
and
watched
him
there.
37
They
set
up
over
his
head
the
accusation
against
him
written,
"THIS
IS
JESUS,
THE
KING
OF
THE
JEWS."
38
Then
there
were
two
robbers
crucified
with
him,
one
on
his
right
hand
and
one
on
the
left.
39
Those
who
passed
by
blasphemed
him,
wagging
their
heads,
40
and
saying,
"You
who
destroy
the
temple,
and
build
it
in
three
days,
save
yourself!
If
you
are
the
Son
of
God,
come
down
from
the
cross!"
41
Likewise
the
chief
priests
also
mocking,
with
the
scribes,
the
Pharisees,
and
the
elders,
said,
42
"He
saved
others,
but
he
can't
save
himself.
If
he
is
the
King
of
Israel,
let
him
come
down
from
the
cross
now,
and
we
will
believe
in
him.
43
He
trusts
in
God.
Let
God
deliver
him
now,
if
he
wants
him;
for
he
said,
'I
am
the
Son
of
God.'"
44
The
robbers
also
who
were
crucified
with
him
cast
on
him
the
same
reproach.
45
Now
from
the
sixth
hour
there
was
darkness
over
all
the
land
until
the
ninth
hour.
46
About
the
ninth
hour
Jesus
cried
with
a
loud
voice,
saying,
"Eli,
Eli,
lima
sabachthani?"
That
is,
"My
God,
my
God,
why
have
you
forsaken
me?"
47
Some
of
them
who
stood
there,
when
they
heard
it,
said,
"This
man
is
calling
Elijah."
48
Immediately
one
of
them
ran,
and
took
a
sponge,
and
filled
it
with
vinegar,
and
put
it
on
a
reed,
and
gave
him
a
drink.
49
The
rest
said,
"Let
him
be.
Let's
see
whether
Elijah
comes
to
save
him."
50
Jesus
cried
again
with
a
loud
voice,
and
yielded
up
his
spirit.
51
Behold,
the
veil
of
the
temple
was
torn
in
two
from
the
top
to
the
bottom.
The
earth
quaked
and
the
rocks
were
split.
52
The
tombs
were
opened,
and
many
bodies
of
the
saints
who
had
fallen
asleep
were
raised;
53
and
coming
out
of
the
tombs
after
his
resurrection,
they
entered
into
the
holy
city
and
appeared
to
many.
54
Now
the
centurion,
and
those
who
were
with
him
watching
Jesus,
when
they
saw
the
earthquake,
and
the
things
that
were
done,
feared
exceedingly,
saying,
"Truly
this
was
the
Son
of
God."
55
Many
women
were
there
watching
from
afar,
who
had
followed
Jesus
from
Galilee,
serving
him.
56
Among
them
were
Mary
Magdalene,
Mary
the
mother
of
James
and
Joses,
and
the
mother
of
the
sons
of
Zebedee.
57
When
evening
had
come,
a
rich
man
from
Arimathaea,
named
Joseph,
who
himself
was
also
Jesus'
disciple
came.
58
This
man
went
to
Pilate,
and
asked
for
Jesus'
body.
Then
Pilate
commanded
the
body
to
be
given
up.
59
Joseph
took
the
body,
and
wrapped
it
in
a
clean
linen
cloth,
60
and
laid
it
in
his
own
new
tomb,
which
he
had
hewn
out
in
the
rock,
and
he
rolled
a
great
stone
to
the
door
of
the
tomb,
and
departed.
61
Mary
Magdalene
was
there,
and
the
other
Mary,
sitting
opposite
the
tomb.
62
Now
on
the
next
day,
which
was
the
day
after
the
Preparation
Day,
the
chief
priests
and
the
Pharisees
were
gathered
together
to
Pilate,
63
saying,
"Sir,
we
remember
what
that
deceiver
said
while
he
was
still
alive:
'After
three
days
I
will
rise
again.'
64
Command
therefore
that
the
tomb
be
made
secure
until
the
third
day,
lest
perhaps
his
disciples
come
at
night
and
steal
him
away,
and
tell
the
people,
'He
is
risen
from
the
dead;'
and
the
last
deception
will
be
worse
than
the
first."
65
Pilate
said
to
them,
"You
have
a
guard.
Go,
make
it
as
secure
as
you
can."
66
So
they
went
with
the
guard
and
made
the
tomb
secure,
sealing
the
stone.

his
accusation
written,
THIS
IS
JESUS
THE
KING
OF
THE
JEWS.
38
Then
are
there
crucified
with
him
two
robbers,
one
on
the
right
hand,
and
one
on
the
left.
39
And
they
that
passed
by
railed
on
him,
wagging
their
heads,
40
and
saying,
Thou
that
destroyest
the
temple,
and
buildest
it
in
three
days,
save
thyself:
if
thou
art
the
Son
of
God,
come
down
from
the
cross.
41
In
like
manner
also
the
chief
priests
mocking
{cf15i
him},
with
the
scribes
and
elders,
said,
42
He
saved
others;
himself
he
cannot
save.
He
is
the
King
of
Israel;
let
him
now
come
down
from
the
cross,
and
we
will
believe
on
him.
43
He
trusteth
on
God;
let
him
deliver
him
now,
if
he
desireth
him:
for
he
said,
I
am
the
Son
of
God.
44
And
the
robbers
also
that
were
crucified
with
him
cast
upon
him
the
same
reproach.
45
Now
from
the
sixth
hour
there
was
darkness
over
all
the
land
until
the
ninth
hour.
46
And
about
the
ninth
hour
Jesus
cried
with
a
loud
voice,
saying,
Eli,
Eli,
lama
sabachthani?
that
is,
My
God,
my
God,
why
hast
thou
forsaken
me?
47
And
some
of
them
that
stood
there,
when
they
heard
it,
said,
This
man
calleth
Elijah.
48
And
straightway
one
of
them
ran,
and
took
a
sponge,
and
filled
it
with
vinegar,
and
put
it
on
a
reed,
and
gave
him
to
drink.
49
And
the
rest
said,
Let
be;
let
us
see
whether
Elijah
cometh
to
save
him.
50
And
Jesus
cried
again
with
a
loud
voice,
and
yielded
up
his
spirit.
51
And
behold,
the
veil
of
the
temple
was
rent
in
twain
from
the
top
to
the
bottom;
and
the
earth
did
quake;
and
the
rocks
were
rent;
52
and
the
tombs
were
opened;
and
many
bodies
of
the
saints
that
had
fallen
asleep
were
raised;
53
and
coming
forth
out
of
the
tombs
after
his
resurrection
they
entered
into
the
holy
city
and
appeared
unto
many.
54
Now
the
centurion,
and
they
that
were
with
him
watching
Jesus,
when
they
saw
the
earthquake,
and
the
things
that
were
done,
feared
exceedingly,
saying,
Truly
this
was
the
Son
of
God.
55
And
many
women
were
there
beholding
from
afar,
which
had
followed
Jesus
from
Galilee,
ministering
unto
him:
56
among
whom
was
Mary
Magdalene,
and
Mary
the
mother
of
James
and
Joses,
and
the
mother
of
the
sons
of
Zebedee.
57
And
when
even
was
come,
there
came
a
rich
man
from
Arimathaea,
named
Joseph,
who
also
himself
was
Jesus-
disciple:
58
this
man
went
to
Pilate,
and
asked
for
the
body
of
Jesus.
Then
Pilate
commanded
it
to
be
given
up.
59
And
Joseph
took
the
body,
and
wrapped
it
in
a
clean
linen
cloth,
60
and
laid
it
in
his
own
new
tomb,
which
he
had
hewn
out
in
the
rock:
and
he
rolled
a
great
stone
to
the
door
of
the
tomb,
and
departed.
61
And
Mary
Magdalene
was
there,
and
the
other
Mary,
sitting
over
against
the
sepulchre.
62
Now
on
the
morrow,
which
is
{cf15i
the
day}
after
the
Preparation,
the
chief
priests
and
the
Pharisees
were
gathered
together
unto
Pilate,
63
saying,
Sir,
we
remember
that
that
deceiver
said,
while
he
was
yet
alive,
After
three
days
I
rise
again.
64
Command
therefore
that
the
sepulchre
be
made
sure
until
the
third
day,
lest
haply
his
disciples
come
and
steal
him
away,
and
say
unto
the
people,
He
is
risen
from
the
dead:
and
the
last
error
will
be
worse
than
the
first.
65
Pilate
said
unto
them,
Ye
have
a
guard:
go
your
way,
make
it
{cf15i
as}
sure
as
ye
can.
66
So
they
went,
and
made
the
sepulchre
sure,
sealing
the
stone,
the
guard
being
with
them.

1
When
the
morning
was
come,
all
the
chief
priests
and
elders
of
the
people
took
counsel
against
Jesus
to
put
him
to
death:
2
And
when
they
had
bound
him,
they
led
him
away,
and
delivered
him
to
Pontius
Pilate
the
governor.
3
Then
Judas,
which
had
betrayed
him,
when
he
saw
that
he
was
condemned,
repented
himself,
and
brought
again
the
thirty
pieces
of
silver
to
the
chief
priests
and
elders,
4
Saying,
I
have
sinned
in
that
I
have
betrayed
the
innocent
blood.
And
they
said,
What
is
that
to
us?
see
you
to
that.
5
And
he
cast
down
the
pieces
of
silver
in
the
temple,
and
departed,
and
went
and
hanged
himself.
6
And
the
chief
priests
took
the
silver
pieces,
and
said,
It
is
not
lawful
for
to
put
them
into
the
treasury,
because
it
is
the
price
of
blood.
7
And
they
took
counsel,
and
bought
with
them
the
potter's
field,
to
bury
strangers
in.
8
Why
that
field
was
called,
The
field
of
blood,
to
this
day.
9
Then
was
fulfilled
that
which
was
spoken
by
Jeremy
the
prophet,
saying,
And
they
took
the
thirty
pieces
of
silver,
the
price
of
him
that
was
valued,
whom
they
of
the
children
of
Israel
did
value;
10
And
gave
them
for
the
potter's
field,
as
the
Lord
appointed
me.
11
And
Jesus
stood
before
the
governor:
and
the
governor
asked
him,
saying,
Are
you
the
King
of
the
Jews?
And
Jesus
said
to
him,
You
say.
12
And
when
he
was
accused
of
the
chief
priests
and
elders,
he
answered
nothing.
13
Then
said
Pilate
to
him,
Hear
you
not
how
many
things
they
witness
against
you?
14
And
he
answered
him
to
never
a
word;
so
that
the
governor
marveled
greatly.
15
Now
at
that
feast
the
governor
was
wont
to
release
to
the
people
a
prisoner,
whom
they
would.
16
And
they
had
then
a
notable
prisoner,
called
Barabbas.
17
Therefore
when
they
were
gathered
together,
Pilate
said
to
them,
Whom
will
you
that
I
release
to
you?
Barabbas,
or
Jesus
which
is
called
Christ?
18
For
he
knew
that
for
envy
they
had
delivered
him.
19
When
he
was
set
down
on
the
judgment
seat,
his
wife
sent
to
him,
saying,
Have
you
nothing
to
do
with
that
just
man:
for
I
have
suffered
many
things
this
day
in
a
dream
because
of
him.
20
But
the
chief
priests
and
elders
persuaded
the
multitude
that
they
should
ask
Barabbas,
and
destroy
Jesus.
21
The
governor
answered
and
said
to
them,
Whether
of
the
two
will
you
that
I
release
to
you?
They
said,
Barabbas.
22
Pilate
said
to
them,
What
shall
I
do
then
with
Jesus
which
is
called
Christ?
They
all
say
to
him,
Let
him
be
crucified.
23
And
the
governor
said,
Why,
what
evil
has
he
done?
But
they
cried
out
the
more,
saying,
Let
him
be
crucified.
24
When
Pilate
saw
that
he
could
prevail
nothing,
but
that
rather
a
tumult
was
made,
he
took
water,
and
washed
his
hands
before
the
multitude,
saying,
I
am
innocent
of
the
blood
of
this
just
person:
see
you
to
it.
25
Then
answered
all
the
people,
and
said,
His
blood
be
on
us,
and
on
our
children.
26
Then
released
he
Barabbas
to
them:
and
when
he
had
scourged
Jesus,
he
delivered
him
to
be
crucified.
27
Then
the
soldiers
of
the
governor
took
Jesus
into
the
common
hall,
and
gathered
to
him
the
whole
band
of
soldiers.
28
And
they
stripped
him,
and
put
on
him
a
scarlet
robe.
29
And
when
they
had
platted
a
crown
of
thorns,
they
put
it
on
his
head,
and
a
reed
in
his
right
hand:
and
they
bowed
the
knee
before
him,
and
mocked
him,
saying,
Hail,
King
of
the
Jews!
30
And
they
spit
on
him,
and
took
the
reed,
and
smote
him
on
the
head.
31
And
after
that
they
had
mocked
him,
they
took
the
robe
off
from
him,
and
put
his
own
raiment
on
him,
and
led
him
away
to
crucify
him.
32
And
as
they
came
out,
they
found
a
man
of
Cyrene,
Simon
by
name:
him
they
compelled
to
bear
his
cross.
33
And
when
they
were
come
to
a
place
called
Golgotha,
that
is
to
say,
a
place
of
a
skull,
34
They
gave
him
vinegar
to
drink
mingled
with
gall:
and
when
he
had
tasted
thereof,
he
would
not
drink.
35
And
they
crucified
him,
and
parted
his
garments,
casting
lots:
that
it
might
be
fulfilled
which
was
spoken
by
the
prophet,
They
parted
my
garments
among
them,
and
on
my
clothing
did
they
cast
lots.
36
And
sitting
down
they
watched
him
there;
37
And
set
up
over
his
head
his
accusation
written,
THIS
IS
JESUS
THE
KING
OF
THE
JEWS.
38
Then
were
there
two
thieves
crucified
with
him,
one
on
the
right
hand,
and
another
on
the
left.
39
And
they
that
passed
by
reviled
him,
wagging
their
heads,
40
And
saying,
You
that
destroy
the
temple,
and
build
it
in
three
days,
save
yourself.
If
you
be
the
Son
of
God,
come
down
from
the
cross.
41
Likewise
also
the
chief
priests
mocking
him,
with
the
scribes
and
elders,
said,
42
He
saved
others;
himself
he
cannot
save.
If
he
be
the
King
of
Israel,
let
him
now
come
down
from
the
cross,
and
we
will
believe
him.
43
He
trusted
in
God;
let
him
deliver
him
now,
if
he
will
have
him:
for
he
said,
I
am
the
Son
of
God.
44
The
thieves
also,
which
were
crucified
with
him,
cast
the
same
in
his
teeth.
45
Now
from
the
sixth
hour
there
was
darkness
over
all
the
land
to
the
ninth
hour.
46
And
about
the
ninth
hour
Jesus
cried
with
a
loud
voice,
saying,
Eli,
Eli,
lama
sabachthani?
that
is
to
say,
My
God,
my
God,
why
have
you
forsaken
me?
47
Some
of
them
that
stood
there,
when
they
heard
that,
said,
This
man
calls
for
Elias.
48
And
straightway
one
of
them
ran,
and
took
a
sponge,
and
filled
it
with
vinegar,
and
put
it
on
a
reed,
and
gave
him
to
drink.
49
The
rest
said,
Let
be,
let
us
see
whether
Elias
will
come
to
save
him.
50
Jesus,
when
he
had
cried
again
with
a
loud
voice,
yielded
up
the
ghost.
51
And,
behold,
the
veil
of
the
temple
was
rent
in
two
from
the
top
to
the
bottom;
and
the
earth
did
quake,
and
the
rocks
rent;
52
And
the
graves
were
opened;
and
many
bodies
of
the
saints
which
slept
arose,
53
And
came
out
of
the
graves
after
his
resurrection,
and
went
into
the
holy
city,
and
appeared
to
many.
54
Now
when
the
centurion,
and
they
that
were
with
him,
watching
Jesus,
saw
the
earthquake,
and
those
things
that
were
done,
they
feared
greatly,
saying,
Truly
this
was
the
Son
of
God.
55
And
many
women
were
there
beholding
afar
off,
which
followed
Jesus
from
Galilee,
ministering
to
him:
56
Among
which
was
Mary
Magdalene,
and
Mary
the
mother
of
James
and
Joses,
and
the
mother
of
Zebedees
children.
57
When
the
even
was
come,
there
came
a
rich
man
of
Arimathaea,
named
Joseph,
who
also
himself
was
Jesus'
disciple:
58
He
went
to
Pilate,
and
begged
the
body
of
Jesus.
Then
Pilate
commanded
the
body
to
be
delivered.
59
And
when
Joseph
had
taken
the
body,
he
wrapped
it
in
a
clean
linen
cloth,
60
And
laid
it
in
his
own
new
tomb,
which
he
had
hewn
out
in
the
rock:
and
he
rolled
a
great
stone
to
the
door
of
the
sepulcher,
and
departed.
61
And
there
was
Mary
Magdalene,
and
the
other
Mary,
sitting
over
against
the
sepulcher.
62
Now
the
next
day,
that
followed
the
day
of
the
preparation,
the
chief
priests
and
Pharisees
came
together
to
Pilate,
63
Saying,
Sir,
we
remember
that
that
deceiver
said,
while
he
was
yet
alive,
After
three
days
I
will
rise
again.
64
Command
therefore
that
the
sepulcher
be
made
sure
until
the
third
day,
lest
his
disciples
come
by
night,
and
steal
him
away,
and
say
to
the
people,
He
is
risen
from
the
dead:
so
the
last
error
shall
be
worse
than
the
first.
65
Pilate
said
to
them,
You
have
a
watch:
go
your
way,
make
it
as
sure
as
you
can.
66
So
they
went,
and
made
the
sepulcher
sure,
sealing
the
stone,
and
setting
a
watch.

When

all
the

of
the

Jesus
to

the

Now
when
Judas,

7
After
consulting
together
they
bought
the

with
it,
as
a

For

he
was
accused
by
the
chief
priests
and
the
elders,
he
did
not
respond.
13
Then
Pilate
said
to
him,
"Don't
you
hear
how
many
charges
they
are
bringing
against
you?"
14
But
he
did
not
answer
even
one
accusation,
so
that
the
governor
was
quite
amazed.
15
During
the
feast
the
governor
was
accustomed
to
release
one
prisoner
to
the
crowd,
whomever
they
wanted.
16
At
that
time
they
had
in
custody
a
notorious
prisoner
named
Jesus
Barabbas.
17
So
after
they
had
assembled,
Pilate
said
to
them,
"Whom
do
you
want
me
to
release
for
you,
Jesus
Barabbas
or
Jesus
who
is
called
the
Christ?"
18
(For
he
knew
that
they
had
handed
him
over
because
of
envy.)
19
As
he
was
sitting
on
the
judgment
seat,
his
wife
sent
a
message
to
him:
"Have
nothing
to
do
with
that
innocent
man;
I
have
suffered
greatly
as
a
result
of
a
dream
about
him
today."
20
But
the
chief
priests
and
the
elders
persuaded
the
crowds
to
ask
for
Barabbas
and
to
have
Jesus
killed.
21
The
governor
asked
them,
"Which
of
the
two
do
you
want
me
to
release
for
you?"
And
they
said,
"Barabbas!"
22
Pilate
said
to
them,
"Then
what
should
I
do
with
Jesus
who
is
called
the
Christ?"
They
all
said,
"Crucify
him!"
23
He
asked,
"Why?
What
wrong
has
he
done?"
But
they
shouted
more
insistently,
"Crucify
him!"
24
When
Pilate
saw
that
he
could
do
nothing,
but
that
instead
a
riot
was
starting,
he
took
some
water,
washed
his
hands
before
the
crowd
and
said,
"I
am
innocent
of
this
man's
blood.
You
take
care
of
it
yourselves!"
25
In
reply
all
the
people
said,
"Let
his
blood
be
on
us
and
on
our
children!"
26
Then
he
released
Barabbas
for
them.
But
after
he
had
Jesus
flogged,
he
handed
him
over
to
be
crucified.
27
Then
the
governor's
soldiers
took
Jesus
into
the
governor's
residence
and
gathered
the
whole
cohort
around
him.
28
They
stripped
him
and
put
a
scarlet
robe
around
him,
29
and
after
braiding
a
crown
of
thorns,
they
put
it
on
his
head.
They
put
a
staff
in
his
right
hand,
and
kneeling
down
before
him,
they
mocked
him:
"Hail,
king
of
the
Jews!"
30
They
spat
on
him
and
took
the
staff
and
struck
him
repeatedly
on
the
head.
31
When
they
had
mocked
him,
they
stripped
him
of
the
robe
and
put
his
own
clothes
back
on
him.
Then
they
led
him
away
to
crucify
him.
32
As
they
were
going
out,
they
found
a
man
from
Cyrene
named
Simon,
whom
they
forced
to
carry
his
cross.
33
They
came
to
a
place
called
Golgotha
(which
means
"Place
of
the
Skull")
34
and
offered
Jesus
wine
mixed
with
gall
to
drink.
But
after
tasting
it,
he
would
not
drink
it.
35
When
they
had
crucified
him,
they
divided
his
clothes
by
throwing
dice.
36
Then
they
sat
down
and
kept
guard
over
him
there.
37
Above
his
head
they
put
the
charge
against
him,
which
read:
"This
is
Jesus,
the
king
of
the
Jews."
38
Then
two
outlaws
were
crucified
with
him,
one
on
his
right
and
one
on
his
left.
39
Those
who
passed
by
defamed
him,
shaking
their
heads
40
and
saying,
"You
who
can
destroy
the
temple
and
rebuild
it
in
three
days,
save
yourself!
If
you
are
God's
Son,
come
down
from
the
cross!"
41
In
the
same
way
even
the
chief
priests—
together
with
the
experts
in
the
law
and
elders—
were
mocking
him:
42
"He
saved
others,
but
he
cannot
save
himself!
He
is
the
king
of
Israel!
If
he
comes
down
now
from
the
cross,
we
will
believe
in
him!
43
He
trusts
in
God—
let
God,
if
he
wants
to,
deliver
him
now
because
he
said,
'I
am
God's
Son'!"
44
The
robbers
who
were
crucified
with
him
also
spoke
abusively
to
him.
45
Now
from
noon
until
three,
darkness
came
over
all
the
land.
46
At
about
three
o'clock
Jesus
shouted
with
a
loud
voice,
"Eli,
Eli,
lema
sabachthani?"
that
is,
"My
God,
my
God,
why
have
you
forsaken
me?"
47
When
some
of
the
bystanders
heard
it,
they
said,
"This
man
is
calling
for
Elijah."
48
Immediately
one
of
them
ran
and
got
a
sponge,
filled
it
with
sour
wine,
put
it
on
a
stick,
and
gave
it
to
him
to
drink.
49
But
the
rest
said,
"Leave
him
alone!
Let's
see
if
Elijah
will
come
to
save
him."
50
Then
Jesus
cried
out
again
with
a
loud
voice
and
gave
up
his
spirit.
51
Just
then
the
temple
curtain
was
torn
in
two,
from
top
to
bottom.
The
earth
shook
and
the
rocks
were
split
apart.
52
And
tombs
were
opened,
and
the
bodies
of
many
saints
who
had
died
were
raised.
53
(They
came
out
of
the
tombs
after
his
resurrection
and
went
into
the
holy
city
and
appeared
to
many
people.)
54
Now
when
the
centurion
and
those
with
him
who
were
guarding
Jesus
saw
the
earthquake
and
what
took
place,
they
were
extremely
terrified
and
said,
"Truly
this
one
was
God's
Son!"
55
Many
women
who
had
followed
Jesus
from
Galilee
and
given
him
support
were
also
there,
watching
from
a
distance.
56
Among
them
were
Mary
Magdalene,
Mary
the
mother
of
James
and
Joseph,
and
the
mother
of
the
sons
of
Zebedee.
57
Now
when
it
was
evening,
there
came
a
rich
man
from
Arimathea,
named
Joseph,
who
was
also
a
disciple
of
Jesus.
58
He
went
to
Pilate
and
asked
for
the
body
of
Jesus.
Then
Pilate
ordered
that
it
be
given
to
him.
59
Joseph
took
the
body,
wrapped
it
in
a
clean
linen
cloth,
60
and
placed
it
in
his
own
new
tomb
that
he
had
cut
in
the
rock.
Then
he
rolled
a
great
stone
across
the
entrance
of
the
tomb
and
went
away.
61
(Now
Mary
Magdalene
and
the
other
Mary
were
sitting
there,
opposite
the
tomb.)
62
The
next
day
(which
is
after
the
day
of
preparation)
the
chief
priests
and
the
Pharisees
assembled
before
Pilate
63
and
said,
"Sir,
we
remember
that
while
that
deceiver
was
still
alive
he
said,
'After
three
days
I
will
rise
again.'
64
So
give
orders
to
secure
the
tomb
until
the
third
day.
Otherwise
his
disciples
may
come
and
steal
his
body
and
say
to
the
people,
'He
has
been
raised
from
the
dead,'
and
the
last
deception
will
be
worse
than
the
first."
65
Pilate
said
to
them,
"Take
a
guard
of
soldiers.
Go
and
make
it
as
secure
as
you
can."
66
So
they
went
with
the
soldiers
of
the
guard
and
made
the
tomb
secure
by
sealing
the
stone.

1
Early
the
next
morning,
all
the
leading
priests
and
older
leaders
of
the
people
met
and
decided
to
kill
Jesus.
2
They
tied
him,
led
him
away,
and
handed
him
over
to
Pilate,
the
governor.
(Acts
1:18-19)
3
Judas
saw
that
they
had
decided
to
kill
Jesus.
He
was
the
one
who
had
handed
him
over.
When
he
saw
what
happened,
he
was
very
sorry
for
what
he
had
done.
So
he
took
the
30
silver
coins
back
to
the
priests
and
the
older
leaders.
4
Judas
said,
"I
sinned.
I
handed
over
to
you
an
innocent
man
to
be
killed."
The
Jewish
leaders
answered,
"We
don't
care!
That's
a
problem
for
you,
not
us."
5
So
Judas
threw
the
money
into
the
Temple.
Then
he
went
out
from
there
and
hanged
himself.
6
The
leading
priests
picked
up
the
silver
coins
in
the
Temple.
They
said,
"Our
law
does
not
allow
us
to
keep
this
money
with
the
Temple
money,
because
this
money
has
paid
for
a
man's
death."
7
So
they
decided
to
use
the
money
to
buy
a
field
called
Potter's
Field.
This
field
would
be
a
place
to
bury
people
who
died
while
visiting
in
Jerusalem.
8
That
is
why
that
field
is
still
called
the
Field
of
Blood.
9
This
showed
the
full
meaning
of
what
Jeremiah
the
prophet
said,
"They
took
30
silver
coins.
That
was
how
much
the
people
of
Israel
decided
to
pay
for
his
life.
10
They
used
those
30
silver
coins
to
buy
the
potter's
field,
like
the
Lord
commanded
me."
11
Jesus
stood
before
Pilate
the
governor,
who
asked
him,
"Are
you
the
king
of
the
Jews?"
Jesus
answered,
"Yes,
that's
right."
12
Then,
when
the
leading
priests
and
the
older
Jewish
leaders
made
their
accusations
against
Jesus,
he
said
nothing.
13
So
Pilate
said
to
him,
"Don't
you
hear
all
these
charges
they
are
making
against
you?
Why
don't
you
answer?"
14
But
Jesus
did
not
say
anything,
and
this
really
surprised
the
governor.
15
Every
year
at
Passover
time
the
governor
would
free
one
prisoner—whichever
one
the
people
wanted
him
to
free.
16
At
that
time
there
was
a
man
in
prison
who
was
known
to
be
very
bad.
His
name
was
Barabbas.
17
When
a
crowd
gathered,
Pilate
said
to
them,
"I
will
free
one
man
for
you.
Which
one
do
you
want
me
to
free:
Barabbas
or
Jesus
who
is
called
the
Christ?"
18
Pilate
knew
that
they
had
handed
Jesus
over
to
him
because
they
were
jealous
of
him.
19
While
Pilate
was
sitting
there
in
the
place
for
judging,
his
wife
sent
a
message
to
him.
It
said,
"Don't
do
anything
with
that
man.
He
is
not
guilty.
Last
night
I
had
a
dream
about
him,
and
it
troubled
me
very
much."
20
But
the
leading
priests
and
older
Jewish
leaders
told
the
people
to
ask
for
Barabbas
to
be
set
free
and
for
Jesus
to
be
killed.
21
Pilate
said,
"I
have
Barabbas
and
Jesus.
Which
one
do
you
want
me
to
set
free
for
you?"
The
people
answered,
"Barabbas!"
22
Pilate
asked,
"So
what
should
I
do
with
Jesus,
the
one
called
the
Christ?"
All
the
people
said,
"Kill
him
on
a
cross!"
23
Pilate
asked,
"Why
do
you
want
me
to
kill
him?
What
wrong
has
he
done?"
But
they
shouted
louder,
"Kill
him
on
a
cross!"
24
Pilate
saw
that
there
was
nothing
he
could
do
to
make
the
people
change.
In
fact,
it
looked
as
if
there
would
be
a
riot.
So
he
took
some
water
and
washed
his
hands
in
front
of
them
all.
He
said,
"I
am
not
guilty
of
this
man's
death.
You
are
the
ones
who
are
doing
it!"
25
The
people
answered,
"We
will
take
full
responsibility
for
his
death.
You
can
blame
us
and
even
our
children!"
26
Then
Pilate
set
Barabbas
free.
And
he
told
some
soldiers
to
beat
Jesus
with
whips.
Then
he
handed
him
over
to
the
soldiers
to
be
killed
on
a
cross.
27
Then
Pilate's
soldiers
took
Jesus
into
the
governor's
palace.
All
the
soldiers
gathered
around
him.
28
They
took
off
Jesus'
clothes
and
put
a
red
robe
on
him.
29
Then
they
made
a
crown
from
thorny
branches
and
put
it
on
his
head,
and
they
put
a
stick
in
his
right
hand.
Then
they
bowed
before
him,
making
fun
of
him.
They
said,
"We
salute
you,
king
of
the
Jews!"
30
They
spit
on
him.
Then
they
took
his
stick
and
kept
hitting
him
on
the
head
with
it.
31
After
they
finished
making
fun
of
him,
the
soldiers
took
off
the
robe
and
put
his
own
clothes
on
him
again.
Then
they
led
him
away
to
be
killed
on
a
cross.
32
The
soldiers
were
going
out
of
the
city
with
Jesus.
They
saw
a
man
from
Cyrene
named
Simon,
and
they
forced
him
to
carry
Jesus'
cross.
33
They
came
to
the
place
called
Golgotha.
(Golgotha
means
"The
Place
of
the
Skull.")
34
There
the
soldiers
gave
Jesus
some
wine
mixed
with
gall.
But
when
he
tasted
it,
he
refused
to
drink
it.
35
The
soldiers
nailed
Jesus
to
a
cross.
Then
they
threw
dice
to
divide
his
clothes
between
them.
36
The
soldiers
stayed
there
to
guard
him.
37
They
put
a
sign
above
his
head
with
the
charge
against
him
written
on
it:
"this
is
jesus,
the
king
of
the
jews."
38
Two
criminals
were
nailed
to
crosses
beside
Jesus—one
on
the
right
and
the
other
on
the
left.
39
People
walked
by
and
shouted
insults
at
Jesus.
They
shook
their
heads
40
and
said,
"You
said
you
could
destroy
the
Temple
and
build
it
again
in
three
days.
So
save
yourself!
Come
down
from
that
cross
if
you
really
are
the
Son
of
God!"
41
The
leading
priests,
the
teachers
of
the
law,
and
the
older
Jewish
leaders
were
also
there.
They
made
fun
of
Jesus
the
same
as
the
other
people
did.
42
They
said,
"He
saved
others,
but
he
can't
save
himself!
People
say
he
is
the
king
of
Israel.
If
he
is
the
king,
he
should
come
down
now
from
the
cross.
Then
we
will
believe
in
him.
43
He
trusted
God.
So
let
God
save
him
now,
if
God
really
wants
him.
He
himself
said,
'I
am
the
Son
of
God.'"
44
And
in
the
same
way,
the
criminals
on
the
crosses
beside
Jesus
also
insulted
him.
45
At
noon
the
whole
country
became
dark.
The
darkness
continued
for
three
hours.
46
About
three
o'clock
Jesus
cried
out
loudly,
"Eli,
Eli,
lema
sabachthani?"
This
means
"My
God,
my
God,
why
have
you
left
me
alone?"
47
Some
of
the
people
standing
there
heard
this.
They
said,
"He
is
calling
Elijah."
48
Quickly,
one
of
them
ran
and
got
a
sponge.
He
filled
the
sponge
with
sour
wine
and
tied
the
sponge
to
a
stick.
Then
he
used
the
stick
to
give
the
sponge
to
Jesus
to
get
a
drink
from
it.
49
But
the
others
said,
"Don't
bother
him.
We
want
to
see
if
Elijah
will
come
to
save
him."
50
Again
Jesus
cried
out
loudly
and
then
died.
51
When
Jesus
died,
the
curtain
in
the
Temple
was
torn
into
two
pieces.
The
tear
started
at
the
top
and
tore
all
the
way
to
the
bottom.
Also,
the
earth
shook
and
rocks
were
broken.
52
The
graves
opened,
and
many
of
God's
people
who
had
died
were
raised
from
death.
53
They
came
out
of
the
graves.
And
after
Jesus
was
raised
from
death,
they
went
into
the
holy
city,
and
many
people
saw
them.
54
The
army
officer
and
the
soldiers
guarding
Jesus
saw
this
earthquake
and
everything
that
happened.
They
were
very
afraid
and
said,
"He
really
was
the
Son
of
God!"
55
Many
women
were
standing
away
from
the
cross,
watching.
These
were
the
women
who
had
followed
Jesus
from
Galilee
to
care
for
him.
56
Mary
Magdalene,
Mary
the
mother
of
James
and
Joseph,
and
the
mother
of
James
and
John
were
there.
57
That
evening
a
rich
man
named
Joseph
came
to
Jerusalem.
He
was
a
follower
of
Jesus
from
the
town
of
Arimathea.
58
He
went
to
Pilate
and
asked
to
have
Jesus'
body.
Pilate
gave
orders
for
the
soldiers
to
give
Jesus'
body
to
him.
59
Then
Joseph
took
the
body
and
wrapped
it
in
a
new
linen
cloth.
60
He
put
Jesus'
body
in
a
new
tomb
that
he
had
dug
in
a
wall
of
rock.
Then
he
closed
the
tomb
by
rolling
a
very
large
stone
to
cover
the
entrance.
After
he
did
this,
he
went
away.
61
Mary
Magdalene
and
the
other
woman
named
Mary
were
sitting
near
the
tomb.
62
That
day
was
the
day
called
Preparation
day.
The
next
day,
the
leading
priests
and
the
Pharisees
went
to
Pilate.
63
They
said,
"Sir,
we
remember
that
while
that
liar
was
still
alive
he
said,
'I
will
rise
from
death
in
three
days.'
64
So
give
the
order
for
the
tomb
to
be
guarded
well
for
three
days.
His
followers
might
come
and
try
to
steal
the
body.
Then
they
could
tell
everyone
that
he
has
risen
from
death.
That
lie
will
be
even
worse
than
what
they
said
about
him
before."
65
Pilate
said,
"Take
some
soldiers
and
go
guard
the
tomb
the
best
way
you
know."
66
So
they
all
went
to
the
tomb
and
made
it
safe
from
thieves.
They
did
this
by
sealing
the
stone
in
the
entrance
and
putting
soldiers
there
to
guard
it.

Early
in
the
morning
all
the
head
religious
leaders
of
the
Jews
and
the
leaders
of
the
people
gathered
together
and
talked
about
how
they
could
put
Jesus
to
death.
2
They
tied
Him
and
took
Him
away.
Then
they
handed
Him
over
to
Pilate
who
was
the
leader
of
the
country.
3
Then
Judas
was
sorry
he
had
handed
Jesus
over
when
he
saw
that
Jesus
was
going
to
be
killed.
He
took
back
the
thirty
pieces
of
silver
and
gave
it
to
the
head
religious
leaders
and
the
other
leaders.
4
He
said,
"I
have
sinned
because
I
handed
over
a
Man
Who
has
done
no
wrong."
And
they
said,
"What
is
that
to
us?
That
is
your
own
doing."
5
He
threw
the
money
down
in
the
house
of
God
and
went
outside.
Then
he
went
away
and
killed
himself
by
hanging
from
a
rope.
6
The
head
religious
leaders
took
the
money.
They
said,
"It
is
against
the
Law
to
put
this
money
in
the
house
of
God.
This
money
has
bought
blood."
7
They
talked
about
what
to
do
with
the
money.
Then
they
decided
to
buy
land
to
bury
strangers
in.
8
Because
of
this,
that
land
is
called
the
Field
of
Blood
to
this
day.
9
It
happened
as
the
early
preacher
Jeremiah
said
it
would
happen.
He
said,
"And
they
took
the
thirty
pieces
of
silver
which
was
the
price
the
Jews
said
they
would
pay
for
Him.
10
And
they
bought
land
to
bury
strangers
in,
as
the
Lord
told
me."
(Zechariah
11:12-13)
11
Then
Jesus
stood
in
front
of
the
leader
of
the
country.
The
leader
asked
Jesus,
"Are
You
the
King
of
the
Jews?"
Jesus
said
to
him,
"What
you
say
is
true."
12
When
the
head
religious
leaders
and
the
other
leaders
spoke
against
Him,
He
said
nothing.
13
Then
Pilate
said
to
Him,
"Do
You
not
hear
all
these
things
they
are
saying
against
You?"
14
Jesus
did
not
say
a
word.
The
leader
was
much
surprised
and
wondered
about
it.
15
At
the
special
supper
each
year
the
leader
of
the
country
would
always
let
one
person
who
was
in
prison
go
free.
It
would
be
the
one
the
people
wanted.
16
They
had
a
man
who
was
known
by
all
the
people
whose
name
was
Barabbas.
17
When
they
were
gathered
together,
Pilate
said
to
them,
"Whom
do
you
want
me
to
let
go
free?
Should
it
be
Barabbas
or
Jesus
Who
is
called
Christ?"
18
For
the
leader
of
the
country
knew
the
religious
leaders
had
given
Jesus
over
to
him
because
they
were
jealous.
19
While
Pilate
was
sitting
in
the
place
where
he
judges,
his
wife
sent
him
this
word,
"Have
nothing
to
do
with
that
good
Man.
I
have
been
troubled
today
in
a
dream
about
Him."
20
The
head
religious
leaders
and
the
other
leaders
talked
the
many
people
into
asking
for
Barabbas
to
go
free
and
for
Jesus
to
be
put
to
death.
21
The
leader
of
the
country
said
to
them,
"Which
one
of
the
two
do
you
want
me
to
let
go
free?"
They
said,
"Barabbas."
22
Pilate
said
to
them,
"Then
what
am
I
to
do
with
Jesus
Who
is
called
Christ?"
They
all
said
to
him,
"Nail
Him
to
a
cross!"
23
Then
Pilate
said,
"Why,
what
bad
thing
has
He
done?"
But
they
cried
out
all
the
more,
"Nail
Him
to
a
cross!"
24
Pilate
saw
that
he
could
do
nothing.
The
people
were
making
loud
calls
and
there
was
much
pushing
around.
He
took
water
and
washed
his
hands
in
front
of
the
many
people.
He
said,
"I
am
not
guilty
of
the
blood
of
this
good
Man.
This
is
your
own
doing."
25
Then
all
the
people
said,
"Let
His
blood
be
on
us
and
on
our
children!"
26
Pilate
let
Barabbas
go
free
but
he
had
men
whip
Jesus.
Then
he
handed
Him
over
to
be
nailed
to
a
cross.
27
Then
the
soldiers
of
Pilate
took
Jesus
into
a
large
room.
A
big
group
of
soldiers
gathered
around
Him.
28
They
took
off
His
clothes
and
put
a
purple
coat
on
Him.
29
They
put
a
crown
of
thorns
on
His
head.
They
put
a
stick
in
His
right
hand.
They
got
on
their
knees
before
Him
and
made
fun
of
Him.
They
said,
"Hello,
King
of
the
Jews!"
30
They
spit
on
Him.
They
took
a
stick
and
hit
Him
on
the
head.
31
After
they
had
made
fun
of
Him,
they
took
the
coat
off
and
put
His
own
clothes
on
Him.
Then
they
led
Him
away
to
be
nailed
to
a
cross.
32
As
they
were
on
the
way,
they
came
to
a
man
called
Simon
from
the
country
of
Cyrene.
They
made
him
carry
the
cross
for
Jesus.
33
They
came
to
a
place
called
Golgotha.
This
name
means
the
place
of
a
skull.
34
They
gave
Him
wine
with
something
in
it
to
take
away
the
pain.
After
tasting
it,
He
took
no
more.
35
When
they
had
nailed
Him
to
the
cross,
they
divided
His
clothes
by
drawing
names.
*It
happened
as
the
early
preacher
said
it
would
happen.
He
said,
"They
divided
My
clothes
among
them
by
drawing
names
to
see
who
would
get
My
coat."
(Psalm
22:18)
36
Then
they
sat
down
and
watched
Him.
37
Over
His
head
they
put
in
writing
what
they
had
against
Him,
THIS
IS
JESUS
THE
KING
OF
THE
JEWS.
38
They
nailed
two
robbers
to
crosses
beside
Him.
One
was
on
His
right
side.
The
other
was
on
His
left
side.
39
Those
who
walked
by
shook
their
heads
and
laughed
at
Him.
40
They
said,
"You
are
the
One
Who
could
destroy
the
house
of
God
and
build
it
up
again
in
three
days.
Now
save
Yourself.
If
You
are
the
Son
of
God,
come
down
from
the
cross."
41
The
head
religious
leaders
and
the
teachers
of
the
Law
and
the
other
leaders
made
fun
of
Him
also.
They
said,
42
"He
saved
others
but
He
cannot
save
Himself.
If
He
is
the
King
of
the
Jews,
let
Him
come
down
from
the
cross.
Then
we
will
believe
in
Him.
43
He
trusts
God.
Let
God
save
Him
now,
if
God
cares
for
Him.
He
has
said,
'I
am
the
Son
of
God.'
"
44
And
the
robbers
who
were
nailed
to
crosses
beside
Him
made
fun
of
Him
the
same
way
also.
45
From
noon
until
three
o'clock
it
was
dark
over
all
the
land.
46
About
three
o'clock
Jesus
cried
with
a
loud
voice,
"My
God,
My
God,
why
have
You
left
Me
alone?"
47
When
some
of
those
who
stood
by
heard
that,
they
said,
"This
Man
is
calling
for
Elijah."
48
At
once
one
of
them
ran
and
took
a
sponge
and
filled
it
with
sour
wine.
He
put
it
on
a
stick
and
gave
it
to
Him
to
drink.
49
The
others
said,
"Let
Him
alone.
Let
us
see
if
Elijah
will
come
and
save
Him."
50
Then
Jesus
gave
another
loud
cry
and
gave
up
His
spirit
and
died.
51
At
once
the
curtain
in
the
house
of
God
was
torn
in
two
from
top
to
bottom.
The
earth
shook
and
the
rocks
fell
apart.
52
Graves
were
opened.
Bodies
of
many
of
God's
people
who
were
dead
were
raised.
53
After
Jesus
was
raised
from
the
grave,
these
arose
from
their
graves
and
went
into
Jerusalem,
the
Holy
City.
These
were
seen
by
many
people.
54
The
captain
of
the
soldiers
and
those
with
him
who
were
watching
Jesus,
saw
all
the
things
that
were
happening.
They
saw
the
earth
shake
and
they
were
very
much
afraid.
They
said,
"For
sure,
this
Man
was
the
Son
of
God."
55
Many
women
were
looking
on
from
far
away.
These
had
followed
Jesus
from
the
country
of
Galilee.
They
had
cared
for
Him.
56
Among
them
was
Mary
Magdalene
and
Mary
the
mother
of
James
and
Joseph
and
the
mother
of
Zebedee's
sons.
57
When
it
was
evening,
a
rich
man
came
from
the
city
of
Arimathea.
His
name
was
Joseph.
He
was
a
follower
of
Jesus
also.
58
He
went
to
Pilate
and
asked
for
the
body
of
Jesus.
Then
Pilate
said
that
the
body
should
be
given
to
him.
59
Joseph
took
the
body
and
put
clean
linen
cloth
around
it.
60
He
laid
it
in
his
own
new
grave.
This
grave
had
been
cut
out
in
the
side
of
a
rock.
He
pushed
a
big
stone
over
the
door
of
the
grave
and
went
away.
61
Mary
Magdalene
and
the
other
Mary
stayed
there.
They
were
sitting
near
the
grave.
62
The
next
day,
the
day
after
Jesus
was
killed,
the
head
religious
leaders
and
the
proud
religious
law-keepers
gathered
together
in
front
of
Pilate.
63
They
said,
"Sir,
we
remember
what
that
Man
Who
fooled
people
said
when
He
was
living,
'After
three
days
I
am
to
rise
from
the
dead.'
64
Speak
the
word
to
have
the
grave
watched
for
three
days.
Then
His
followers
cannot
come
at
night
and
take
Him
away
and
say
to
the
people,
'He
has
been
raised
from
the
dead.'
The
last
mistake
would
be
worse
than
the
first."
65
Pilate
said
to
them,
"Take
the
soldiers.
Go
and
watch
the
grave."
66
Then
they
went
and
made
the
soldiers
stand
by
the
grave.
They
put
a
lock
on
the
big
stone
door.

1
Early
the
next
morning,
all
the
leading
priests
and
older
leaders
of
the
people
decided
that
Jesus
should
die.
2
They
tied

led
him
away,
and
turned
him
over
to
Pilate,
the
governor.
3
Judas,
the
one
who
had
given
Jesus
to
his
enemies,
saw
that
they
had
decided
to
kill
Jesus.
Then
he
was
very
sorry
for
what
he
had
done.
So
he
took
the
thirty
silver
coins
back
to
the
priests
and
the
leaders,
4
saying,
"I
sinned;
I
handed
over
to
you
an
innocent
man."
The
leaders
answered,
"What
is
that
to
us?
That's
your
problem,
not
ours."
5
So
Judas
threw
the
money
into
the
Temple.
Then
he
went
off
and
hanged
himself.
6
The
leading
priests
picked
up
the
silver
coins
in
the
Temple
and
said,
"Our
law
does
not
allow
us
to
keep
this
money
with
the
Temple
money,
because
it
has
paid
for
a
man's
death."
7
So
they
decided
to
use
the
coins
to
buy
Potter's
Field
as
a
place
to
bury
strangers
who
died
in
Jerusalem.
8
That
is
why
that
field
is
still
called
the
Field
of
Blood.
9
So
what
Jeremiah
the
prophet
had
said
came
true:
"They
took
thirty
silver
coins.
That
is
how
little
the
Israelites
thought
he
was
worth.
10
They
used
those
thirty
silver
coins
to
buy
the
potter's
field,
as
the
Lord
commanded
me."
11
Jesus
stood
before
Pilate
the
governor,
and
Pilate
asked
him,
"Are
you
the
king
of
the
Jews?"
Jesus
answered,
"Those
are
your
words."
12
When
the
leading
priests
and
the
older
leaders
accused
Jesus,
he
said
nothing.
13
So
Pilate
said
to
Jesus,
"Don't
you
hear
them
accusing
you
of
all
these
things?"
14
But
Jesus
said
nothing
in
answer
to
Pilate,
and
Pilate
was
very
surprised
at
this.
15
Every
year
at
the
time
of
Passover
the
governor
would
free
one
prisoner
whom
the
people
chose.
16
At
that
time
there
was
a
man
in
prison,
named
Barabbas,
who
was
known
to
be
very
bad.
17
When
the
people
gathered
at
Pilate's
house,
Pilate
said,
"Whom
do
you
want
me
to
set
free:
Barabbas
or
Jesus
who
is
called
the
Christ?"
18
Pilate
knew
that
the
people
turned
Jesus
in
to
him
because
they
were
jealous.
19
While
Pilate
was
sitting
there
on
the
judge's
seat,
his
wife
sent
this
message
to
him:
"Don't
do
anything
to
that
man,
because
he
is
innocent.
Today
I
had
a
dream
about
him,
and
it
troubled
me
very
much."
20
But
the
leading
priests
and
older
leaders
convinced
the
crowd
to
ask
for
Barabbas
to
be
freed
and
for
Jesus
to
be
killed.
21
Pilate
said,
"I
have
Barabbas
and
Jesus.
Which
do
you
want
me
to
set
free
for
you?"
The
people
answered,
"Barabbas."
22
Pilate
asked,
"So
what
should
I
do
with
Jesus,
the
one
called
the
Christ?"
They
all
answered,
"Crucify
him!"
23
Pilate
asked,
"Why?
What
wrong
has
he
done?"
But
they
shouted
louder,
"Crucify
him!"
24
When
Pilate
saw
that
he
could
do
nothing
about
this
and
that
a
riot
was
starting,
he
took
some
water
and
washed
his
handsn
in
front
of
the
crowd.
Then
he
said,
"I
am
not
guilty
of
this
man's
death.
You
are
the
ones
who
are
causing
it!"
25
All
the
people
answered,
"We
and
our
children
will
be
responsible
for
his
death."
26
Then
he
set
Barabbas
free.
But
Jesus
was
beaten
with
whips
and
handed
over
to
the
soldiers
to
be
crucified.
27
The
governor's
soldiers
took
Jesus
into
the
governor's
palace,
and
they
all
gathered
around
him.
28
They
took
off
his
clothes
and
put
a
red
robe
on
him.
29
Using
thorny
branches,
they
made
a
crown,
put
it
on
his
head,
and
put
a
stick
in
his
right
hand.
Then
the
soldiers
bowed
before
Jesus
and
made
fun
of
him,
saying,
"Hail,
King
of
the
Jews!"
30
They
spat
on
Jesus.
Then
they
took
his
stick
and
began
to
beat
him
on
the
head.
31
After
they
finished,
the
soldiers
took
off
the
robe
and
put
his
own
clothes
on
him
again.
Then
they
led
him
away
to
be
crucified.
32
As
the
soldiers
were
going
out
of
the
city
with
Jesus,
they
forced
a
man
from
Cyrene,
named
Simon,
to
carry
the
cross
for
Jesus.
33
They
all
came
to
the
place
called
Golgotha,
which
means
the
Place
of
the
Skull.
34
The
soldiers
gave
Jesus
wine
mixed
with
galln
to
drink.
He
tasted
the
wine
but
refused
to
drink
it.
35
When
the
soldiers
had
crucified
him,
they
threw
lots
to
decide
who
would
get
his
clothes.
36
The
soldiers
sat
there
and
continued
watching
him.
37
They
put
a
sign
above
Jesus'
head
with
a
charge
against
him.
It
said:
this
is
jesus,
the
king
of
the
jews.
38
Two
robbers
were
crucified
beside
Jesus,
one
on
the
right
and
the
other
on
the
left.
39
People
walked
by
and
insulted
Jesus
and
shook
their
heads,
40
saying,
"You
said
you
could
destroy
the
Temple
and
build
it
again
in
three
days.
So
save
yourself!
Come
down
from
that
cross
if
you
are
really
the
Son
of
God!"
41
The
leading
priests,
the
teachers
of
the
law,
and
the
older
Jewish
leaders
were
also
making
fun
of
Jesus.
42
They
said,
"He
saved
others,
but
he
can't
save
himself!
He
says
he
is
the
king
of
Israel!
If
he
is
the
king,
let
him
come
down
now
from
the
cross.
Then
we
will
believe
in
him.
43
He
trusts
in
God,
so
let
God
save
him
now,
if
God
really
wants
him.
He
himself
said,
'I
am
the
Son
of
God.'"
44
And
in
the
same
way,
the
robbers
who
were
being
crucified
beside
Jesus
also
insulted
him.
45
At
noon
the
whole
country
became
dark,
and
the
darkness
lasted
for
three
hours.
46
About
three
o'clock
Jesus
cried
out
in
a
loud
voice,
"Eli,
Eli,
lama
sabachthani?"
This
means,
"My
God,
my
God,
why
have
you
rejected
me?"
47
Some
of
the
people
standing
there
who
heard
this
said,
"He
is
calling
Elijah."
48
Quickly
one
of
them
ran
and
got
a
sponge
and
filled
it
with
vinegar
and
tied
it
to
a
stick
and
gave
it
to
Jesus
to
drink.
49
But
the
others
said,
"Don't
bother
him.
We
want
to
see
if
Elijah
will
come
to
save
him."
50
But
Jesus
cried
out
again
in
a
loud
voice
and
died.
51
Then
the
curtain
in
the
Templen
was
torn
into
two
pieces,
from
the
top
to
the
bottom.
Also,
the
earth
shook
and
rocks
broke
apart.
52
The
graves
opened,
and
many
of
God's
people
who
had
died
were
raised
from
the
dead.
53
They
came
out
of
the
graves
after
Jesus
was
raised
from
the
dead
and
went
into
the
holy
city,
where
they
appeared
to
many
people.
54
When
the
army
officer
and
the
soldiers
guarding
Jesus
saw
this
earthquake
and
everything
else
that
happened,
they
were
very
frightened
and
said,
"He
really
was
the
Son
of
God!"
55
Many
women
who
had
followed
Jesus
from
Galilee
to
help
him
were
standing
at
a
distance
from
the
cross,
watching.
56
Mary
Magdalene,
and
Mary
the
mother
of
James
and
Joseph,
and
the
mother
of
James
and
John
were
there.
57
That
evening
a
rich
man
named
Joseph,
a
follower
of
Jesus
from
the
town
of
Arimathea,
came
to
Jerusalem.
58
Joseph
went
to
Pilate
and
asked
to
have
Jesus'
body.
So
Pilate
gave
orders
for
the
soldiers
to
give
it
to
Joseph.
59
Then
Joseph
took
the
body
and
wrapped
it
in
a
clean
linen
cloth.
60
He
put
Jesus'
body
in
a
new
tomb
that
he
had
cut
out
of
a
wall
of
rock,
and
he
rolled
a
very
large
stone
to
block
the
entrance
of
the
tomb.
Then
Joseph
went
away.
61
Mary
Magdalene
and
the
other
woman
named
Mary
were
sitting
near
the
tomb.
62
The
next
day,
the
day
after
Preparation
Day,
the
leading
priests
and
the
Pharisees
went
to
Pilate.
63
They
said,
"Sir,
we
remember
that
while
that
liar
was
still
alive
he
said,
'After
three
days
I
will
rise
from
the
dead.'
64
So
give
the
order
for
the
tomb
to
be
guarded
closely
till
the
third
day.
Otherwise,
his
followers
might
come
and
steal
the
body
and
tell
people
that
he
has
risen
from
the
dead.
That
lie
would
be
even
worse
than
the
first
one."
65
Pilate
said,
"Take
some
soldiers
and
go
guard
the
tomb
the
best
way
you
know."
66
So
they
all
went
to
the
tomb
and
made
it
safe
from
thieves
by
sealing
the
stone
in
the
entrance
and
putting
soldiers
there
to
guard
it.

1
And
early
morning
occurring,
all
the
chief
priests
and
the
elders
of
the
people
took
counsel
together
against
Jesus,
so
as
to
put
Him
to
death.
2
And
binding
Him,
they
led
Him
away
and
delivered
Him
to
Pontius
Pilate
the
governor.
3
Then
Judas,
the
one
betraying
Him,
seeing
that
He
was
condemned,
repenting,
returned
the
thirty
pieces
of
silver
to
the
chief
priests
and
the
elders,
4
saying,
I
sinned,
betraying
innocent
blood.
But
they
said,
What
is
it
to
us?
You
see
to
it.
5
And
tossing
the
silver
pieces
into
the
temple,
he
left.
And
going
away
he
hanged
himself.
6
And
taking
the
pieces
of
silver,
the
chief
priests
said,
It
is
not
lawful
to
put
them
into
the
treasury,
since
it
is
the
price
of
blood.
7
And
taking
counsel,
they
bought
of
them
the
potter's
field,
for
burial
for
the
strangers.
8
So
that
field
was
called
Field
of
Blood
until
today.
9
Then
was
fulfilled
that
spoken
through
Jeremiah
the
prophet,
saying,
And
I
took
the
thirty
pieces
of
silver,
the
price
of
Him
who
had
been
priced,
on
whom
they
of
the
sons
of
Israel
set
a
price,
10
and
gave
them
for
the
potter's
field,
as
the
Lord
directed
me.

11:12,
13
11
And
Jesus
stood
before
the
governor.
And
the
governor
questioned
Him,
saying,
Are
You
the
King
of
the
Jews?
And
Jesus
said
to
him,
You
say
it.
12
And
when
He
was
accused
by
the
chief
priests
and
the
elders,
He
answered
nothing.
13
Then
Pilate
said
to
Him,
Do
You
not
hear
how
many
things
they
testify
against
You?
14
And
He
did
not
answer
him,
not
even
to
one
word,
so
that
the
governor
greatly
marveled.
15
And
at
a
feast,
the
governor
customarily
released
one
prisoner
to
the
crowd,
whom
they
wished.
16
And
they
had
then
a
notable
prisoner,
Barabbas.
17
Then
they,
having
been
assembled,
Pilate
said
to
them,
Whom
do
you
wish
I
may
release
to
you,
Barabbas,
or
Jesus
being
called
Christ?
18
For
he
knew
they
delivered
Him
up
through
envy.
19
But
as
he
was
sitting
on
the
judgment
seat,
his
wife
sent
to
him,
saying,
Let
nothing
be
to
you
and
that
just
one.
For
I
have
suffered
many
things
today
by
a
dream
because
of
Him.
20
But
the
chief
priests
and
the
elders
persuaded
the
crowds,
that
they
should
ask
for
Barabbas,
and
to
destroy
Jesus.
21
And
answering,
the
governor
said
to
them,
From
the
two,
which
do
you
wish
that
I
release
to
you?
And
they
said,
Barabbas.
22
Pilate
said
to
them,
What
then
should
I
do
to
Jesus
being
called
Christ?
They
all
say
to
him,
Crucify
Him!
23
But
the
governor
said,
For
what
badness
did
He
do?
But
they
the
more
cried
out,
saying,
Crucify!
24
And
seeing
that
nothing
is
gained,
but
rather
an
uproar
occurs,
taking
water,
Pilate
washed
his
hands
before
the
crowd,
saying,
I
am
innocent
of
the
blood
of
this
righteous
one;
you
will
see.
25
And
answering,
all
the
people
said,
His
blood
be
on
us
and
on
our
children.
26
Then
he
released
Barabbas
to
them.
But
having
flogged
Jesus,
he
delivered
Him
up
that
He
might
be
crucified.
27
Then
taking
Jesus
into
the
praetorium,
the
soldiers
of
the
governor
gathered
all
the
cohort
against
Him.
28
And
stripping
Him,
they
put
a
scarlet
cloak
around
Him.
29
And
plaiting
a
crown
of
thorns,
they
placed
it
on
His
head,
and
a
reed
in
His
right
hand.
And
bowing
the
knee
before
Him,
they
mocked
at
Him,
saying,
Hail,
King
of
the
Jews.
30
And
spitting
at
Him,
they
took
the
reed
and
struck
at
His
head.
31
And
when
they
had
mocked
Him,
they
stripped
off
His
cloak,
and
they
put
His
garments
on
Him
and
led
Him
away
to
crucify
Him.
32
And
going
out,
they
found
a
man,
a
Cyrenean,
named
Simon.
They
compelled
this
one,
that
he
bear
His
cross.
33
And
coming
to
a
place
called
Golgotha,
which
is
called,
Place
of
a
Skull,
34
they
gave
Him
vinegar
mingled
with
gall
to
drink.
And
having
tasted,
He
would
not
drink.
35
And
having
crucified
Him,
they
divided
His
garments,
casting
a
lot,
that
might
be
fulfilled
that
spoken
by
the
prophet,
"They
divided
My
garments
to
themselves,
and
they
cast
a
lot
over
My
clothing."
Psa.
22:18
36
And
sitting
down,
they
guarded
Him
there.
37
And
they
put
up
over
His
head
His
charge,
it
having
been
written:
THIS
IS
JESUS,
THE
KING
OF
THE
JEWS.
38
Then
two
plunderers
were
crucified
with
Him,
one
off
the
right,
and
one
off
the
left
of
Him.
39
But
those
passing
by,
blasphemed
Him,
shaking
their
heads,
40
and
saying,
You
the
one
razing
the
temple
and
building
it
in
three
days,
if
You
are
the
Son
of
God,
come
down
from
the
cross.
41
And
in
the
same
way,
the
chief
priests
with
the
scribes
and
elders,
mocking,
said,
42
He
saved
others;
He
is
not
able
to
save
Himself.
If
He
is
the
King
of
Israel,
let
Him
come
down
now
from
the
cross,
and
we
will
believe
Him.
43
He
trusted
on
God.
Let
Him
rescue
Him
now,
if
He
desires
Him.
For
He
said,
I
am
Son
of
God.
44
And
also
the
plunderers
crucified
with
Him
defamed
Him,
saying
the
same.
45
And
from
the
sixth
hour
there
was
darkness
over
all
the
land
until
the
ninth
hour.
46
And
about
the
ninth
hour,
Jesus
cried
out
with
a
loud
voice,
saying,
Eli,
Eli,
lama
sabachthani;
that
is,
"My
God,
My
God,
why
did
You
forsake
Me?"
Psa.
22:1
47
And
hearing,
some
of
those
standing
there
said,
This
one
calls
Elijah.
48
And
at
once,
one
of
them
running
and
taking
a
sponge,
and
filling
it
with
"vinegar,"
put
it
on
a
reed
and
"gave
drink
to
Him."
Psa.
69:21
49
But
the
rest
said,
Let
be;
let
us
see
if
Elijah
is
coming
to
save
Him.
50
And
crying
again
with
a
loud
voice,
Jesus
released
His
spirit.
51
And,
behold!
The
veil
of
the
temple
was
torn
into
two
from
above
as
far
as
below.
And
the
earth
quaked,
and
the
rocks
were
sheared!
52
And
the
tombs
were
opened,
and
many
bodies
of
the
saints
who
had
fallen
asleep
were
raised.
53
And
coming
forth
out
of
the
tombs
after
His
resurrection,
they
entered
into
the
holy
city
and
were
revealed
to
many.
54
But
the
centurion
and
those
with
him
guarding
Jesus,
seeing
the
earthquake
and
the
things
taking
place,
they
feared
exceedingly,
saying,
Truly
this
One
was
Son
of
God.
55
And
many
women
were
there,
watching
from
afar
off,
those
who
followed
Jesus
from
Galilee,
ministering
to
Him;
56
among
whom
was
Mary
Magdalene,
and
Mary
the
mother
of
James
and
Joses,
and
the
mother
of
the
sons
of
Zebedee.
57
And
evening
having
come,
a
rich
man
from
Arimathea
(Joseph
by
name)
who
also
himself
was
discipled
to
Jesus,
58
coming
up
to
Pilate,
this
one
asked
for
the
body
of
Jesus.
Then
Pilate
commanded
the
body
to
be
given.
59
And
taking
the
body,
Joseph
wrapped
it
in
clean
linen,
60
and
laid
it
in
his
new
tomb,
which
he
had
cut
out
in
the
rock.
And
rolling
a
great
stone
to
the
door
of
the
tomb,
he
departed.
61
And
there
was
Mary
Magdalene
and
the
other
Mary,
sitting
across
from
the
grave.
62
And
on
the
morrow,
which
is
after
the
Preparation,
the
chief
priests
and
the
Pharisees
were
assembled
to
Pilate,
63
saying,
Sir,
we
have
recalled
that
that
deceiver
while
living
said,
After
three
days
I
will
rise.
64
Therefore,
command
that
the
grave
be
secured
until
the
third
day,
that
His
disciples
may
not
come
by
night
and
steal
Him
away,
and
may
say
to
the
people,
He
is
raised
from
the
dead.
And
the
last
deception
will
be
worse
than
the
first.
65
And
Pilate
said
to
them,
You
have
a
guard,
go
away,
make
it
as
secure
as
you
know
how.
66
And
going
along
with
the
guard,
they
made
the
grave
secure,
sealing
the
stone.

1
When
daybreak
came,
all
the
chief
priests
and
the
elders
of
the
people
plotted
against
Jesus
to
put
Him
to
death.
2
After
tying
Him
up,
they
led
Him
away
and
handed
Him
over
to
Pilate,
the
governor.
3
Then
Judas,
His
betrayer,
seeing
that
He
had
been
condemned,
was
full
of
remorse
and
returned
the
30
pieces
of
silver
to
the
chief
priests
and
elders.
4
"I
have
sinned
by
betraying
innocent
blood,"
he
said.
"What's
that
to
us?"
they
said.
"See
to
it
yourself!"
5
So
he
threw
the
silver
into
the
sanctuary
and
departed.
Then
he
went
and
hanged
himself.
6
The
chief
priests
took
the
silver
and
said,
"It's
not
lawful
to
put
it
into
the
temple
treasury,
since
it
is
blood
money."
7
So
they
conferred
together
and
bought
the
potter's
field
with
it
as
a
burial
place
for
foreigners.
8
Therefore
that
field
has
been
called
"Blood
Field"
to
this
day.
9
Then
what
was
spoken
through
the
prophet
Jeremiah
was
fulfilled:
They
took
the
30
pieces
of
silver,
the
price
of
Him
whose
price
was
set
by
the
sons
of
Israel,
10
and
they
gave
them
for
the
potter's
field,
as
the
Lord
directed
me.
11
Now
Jesus
stood
before
the
governor.
"Are
You
the
King
of
the
Jews?"
the
governor
asked
Him.
Jesus
answered,
"You
have
said
it."
12
And
while
He
was
being
accused
by
the
chief
priests
and
elders,
He
didn't
answer.
13
Then
Pilate
said
to
Him,
"Don't
You
hear
how
much
they
are
testifying
against
You?"
14
But
He
didn't
answer
him
on
even
one
charge,
so
that
the
governor
was
greatly
amazed.
15
At
the
festival
the
governor's
custom
was
to
release
to
the
crowd
a
prisoner
they
wanted.
16
At
that
time
they
had
a
notorious
prisoner
called
Barabbas.
17
So
when
they
had
gathered
together,
Pilate
said
to
them,
"Who
is
it
you
want
me
to
release
for
you--
Barabbas,
or
Jesus
who
is
called
Messiah?"
18
For
he
knew
they
had
handed
Him
over
because
of
envy.
19
While
he
was
sitting
on
the
judge's
bench,
his
wife
sent
word
to
him,
"Have
nothing
to
do
with
that
righteous
man,
for
today
I've
suffered
terribly
in
a
dream
because
of
Him!"
20
The
chief
priests
and
the
elders,
however,
persuaded
the
crowds
to
ask
for
Barabbas
and
to
execute
Jesus.
21
The
governor
asked
them,
"Which
of
the
two
do
you
want
me
to
release
for
you?"
"Barabbas!"
they
answered.
22
Pilate
asked
them,
"What
should
I
do
then
with
Jesus,
who
is
called
Messiah?"
They
all
answered,
"Crucify
Him!"
23
Then
he
said,
"Why?
What
has
He
done
wrong?"
But
they
kept
shouting,
"Crucify
Him!"
all
the
more.
24
When
Pilate
saw
that
he
was
getting
nowhere,
but
that
a
riot
was
starting
instead,
he
took
some
water,
washed
his
hands
in
front
of
the
crowd,
and
said,
"I
am
innocent
of
this
man's
blood.
See
to
it
yourselves!"
25
All
the
people
answered,
"His
blood
be
on
us
and
on
our
children!"
26
Then
he
released
Barabbas
to
them.
But
after
having
Jesus
flogged,
he
handed
Him
over
to
be
crucified.
27
Then
the
governor's
soldiers
took
Jesus
into
headquarters
and
gathered
the
whole
company
around
Him.
28
They
stripped
Him
and
dressed
Him
in
a
scarlet
robe.
29
They
twisted
together
a
crown
of
thorns,
put
it
on
His
head,
and
placed
a
reed
in
His
right
hand.
And
they
knelt
down
before
Him
and
mocked
Him:
"Hail,
King
of
the
Jews!"
30
Then
they
spit
at
Him,
took
the
reed,
and
kept
hitting
Him
on
the
head.
31
When
they
had
mocked
Him,
they
stripped
Him
of
the
robe,
put
His
clothes
on
Him,
and
led
Him
away
to
crucify
Him.
32
As
they
were
going
out,
they
found
a
Cyrenian
man
named
Simon.
They
forced
this
man
to
carry
His
cross.
33
When
they
came
to
a
place
called
Golgotha
(which
means
Skull
Place),
34
they
gave
Him
wine
mixed
with
gall
to
drink.
But
when
He
tasted
it,
He
would
not
drink
it.
35
After
crucifying
Him
they
divided
His
clothes
by
casting
lots.
36
Then
they
sat
down
and
were
guarding
Him
there.
37
Above
His
head
they
put
up
the
charge
against
Him
in
writing:
THIS
IS
JESUS
THE
KING
OF
THE
JEWS
38
Then
two
criminals
were
crucified
with
Him,
one
on
the
right
and
one
on
the
left.
39
Those
who
passed
by
were
yelling
insults
at
Him,
shaking
their
heads
40
and
saying,
"The
One
who
would
demolish
the
sanctuary
and
rebuild
it
in
three
days,
save
Yourself!
If
You
are
the
Son
of
God,
come
down
from
the
cross!"
41
In
the
same
way
the
chief
priests,
with
the
scribes
and
elders,
mocked
Him
and
said,
42
"He
saved
others,
but
He
cannot
save
Himself!
He
is
the
King
of
Israel!
Let
Him
come
down
now
from
the
cross,
and
we
will
believe
in
Him.
43
He
has
put
His
trust
in
God;
let
God
rescue
Him
now--
if
He
wants
Him!
For
He
said,
'I
am
God's
Son.'"
44
In
the
same
way
even
the
criminals
who
were
crucified
with
Him
kept
taunting
Him.
45
From
noon
until
three
in
the
afternoon
darkness
came
over
the
whole
land.
46
At
about
three
in
the
afternoon
Jesus
cried
out
with
a
loud
voice,
"
El,
El,
lem
sabachthni?
"
that
is,
"
My
God,
My
God,
why
have
You
forsaken
Me?"
47
When
some
of
those
standing
there
heard
this,
they
said,
"He's
calling
for
Elijah!"
48
Immediately
one
of
them
ran
and
got
a
sponge,
filled
it
with
sour
wine,
fixed
it
on
a
reed,
and
offered
Him
a
drink.
49
But
the
rest
said,
"Let's
see
if
Elijah
comes
to
save
Him!"
50
Jesus
shouted
again
with
a
loud
voice
and
gave
up
His
spirit.
51
Suddenly,
the
curtain
of
the
sanctuary
was
split
in
two
from
top
to
bottom;
the
earth
quaked
and
the
rocks
were
split.
52
The
tombs
also
were
opened
and
many
bodies
of
the
saints
who
had
gone
to
their
rest
were
raised.
53
And
they
came
out
of
the
tombs
after
His
resurrection,
entered
the
holy
city,
and
appeared
to
many.
54
When
the
centurion
and
those
with
him,
who
were
guarding
Jesus,
saw
the
earthquake
and
the
things
that
had
happened,
they
were
terrified
and
said,
"This
man
really
was
God's
Son!"
55
Many
women
who
had
followed
Jesus
from
Galilee
and
ministered
to
Him
were
there,
looking
on
from
a
distance.
56
Among
them
were
Mary
Magdalene,
Mary
the
mother
of
James
and
Joseph,
and
the
mother
of
Zebedee's
sons.
57
When
it
was
evening,
a
rich
man
from
Arimathea
named
Joseph
came,
who
himself
had
also
become
a
disciple
of
Jesus.
58
He
approached
Pilate
and
asked
for
Jesus'
body.
Then
Pilate
ordered
that
it
be
released.
59
So
Joseph
took
the
body,
wrapped
it
in
clean,
fine
linen,
60
and
placed
it
in
his
new
tomb,
which
he
had
cut
into
the
rock.
He
left
after
rolling
a
great
stone
against
the
entrance
of
the
tomb.
61
Mary
Magdalene
and
the
other
Mary
were
seated
there,
facing
the
tomb.
62
The
next
day,
which
followed
the
preparation
day,
the
chief
priests
and
the
Pharisees
gathered
before
Pilate
63
and
said,
"Sir,
we
remember
that
while
this
deceiver
was
still
alive,
He
said,
'After
three
days
I
will
rise
again.'
64
Therefore
give
orders
that
the
tomb
be
made
secure
until
the
third
day.
Otherwise,
His
disciples
may
come,
steal
Him,
and
tell
the
people,
'He
has
been
raised
from
the
dead.'
Then
the
last
deception
will
be
worse
than
the
first."
65
"You
have
a
guard
of
soldiers,"
Pilate
told
them.
"Go
and
make
it
as
secure
as
you
know
how."
66
Then
they
went
and
made
the
tomb
secure
by
sealing
the
stone
and
setting
the
guard.
