1. But Ephraim is an evil spirit, he has chased the east wind all the day: he has multiplied empty and vain things, and made a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil has gone in the way of traffic into Egypt.
1. Ephraim H669 feedeth H7462 on wind H7307 , and followeth after H7291 the east wind H6921 : he daily H3605 H3117 increaseth H7235 lies H3577 and desolation H7701 ; and they do make H3772 a covenant H1285 with H5973 the Assyrians H804 , and oil H8081 is carried H2986 into Egypt H4714 .
2. And the Lord has a controversy with Juda, in order to punish Jacob: according to his ways and according to his practices will he recompense him.
2. The LORD H3068 hath also a controversy H7379 with H5973 Judah H3063 , and will punish H6485 H5921 Jacob H3290 according to his ways H1870 ; according to his doings H4611 will he recompense H7725 him.
3. He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and in his labours he had power with God.

6. Thou therefore shalt return to thy God: keep thou mercy and judgement, and draw nigh to thy God continually.

7. As for Chanaan, in his hand is a balance of unrighteousness: he has loved to tyrannize.

8. And Ephraim said, Nevertheless I am rich, I have found refreshment to myself. None of his labours shall be found available to him, by reason of the sins which he has committed.
8. And Ephraim H669 said H559 , Yet H389 I am become rich H6238 , I have found me out H4672 substance H202 : in all H3605 my labors H3018 they shall find H4672 none H3808 iniquity H5771 in me that H834 were sin H2399 .
9. But I the Lord thy God brought thee up out of the land of Egypt: I will yet cause thee to dwell in tabernacles, according to the days of the feast.
9. And I H595 that am the LORD H3068 thy God H430 from the land H4480 H776 of Egypt H4714 will yet H5750 make thee to dwell H3427 in tabernacles H168 , as in the days H3117 of the solemn feast H4150 .
10. And I will speak to the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and by the means of the prophets I was represented.
10. I have also spoken H1696 by H5921 the prophets H5030 , and I H595 have multiplied H7235 visions H2377 , and used similitudes H1819 , by the ministry H3027 of the prophets H5030 .
11. See Heb. If Galaad exists not, then the chiefs in Galaad when they sacrificed were false, and their altars were as heaps on the ground of the field.
11. Is there iniquity H205 in Gilead H1568 ? surely H389 they are H1961 vanity H7723 : they sacrifice H2076 bullocks H7794 in Gilgal H1537 ; yea H1571 , their altars H4196 are as heaps H1530 in H5921 the furrows H8525 of the fields H7704 .
12. And Jacob retreated into the plain of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and waited for a wife.
12. And Jacob H3290 fled H1272 into the country H7704 of Syria H758 , and Israel H3478 served H5647 for a wife H802 , and for a wife H802 he kept H8104 sheep .
13. And the Lord brought Israel out of the land of Egypt by a prophet, and by a prophet was he preserved.
13. And by a prophet H5030 the LORD H3068 brought H5927 H853 Israel H3478 out of Egypt H4480 H4714 , and by a prophet H5030 was he preserved H8104 .
14. Ephraim was angry and Gr. excited himself to anger excited, therefore his blood shall be poured out upon him, and the Lord shall recompense to him his reproach.
14. Ephraim H669 provoked him to anger H3707 most bitterly H8563 : therefore shall he leave H5203 his blood H1818 upon H5921 him , and his reproach H2781 shall his Lord H113 return H7725 unto him.
